Saxophonist Merlon Devine Sits Down With 6ZEROS

Who is Merlon Devine?​

Merlon Devine was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in a musical family led by a guitar playing father and a singing mother. Merlon's childhood home was faith-led so he and his nine siblings developed an affinity and appreciation for Gospel music. But unlike his siblings, Merlon didn't develop any vocal chops so he had to find another way to express himself musically. He decided he would have to play music and because of that he eventually found his voice with the saxophone.

Merlon, the Music Artist​

Merlon's signature sound is every bit the product of his upbringing. His Gospel tinged expression on the Saxophone is a direct result of being raised in a faith-first home filled with God, love, and music. But Merlon Devine's love for musical instruments does not stop at the Saxophone, he is also a very talented Flutist. In fact, Devine took Number 6 on our Relaxing Jazz Music mix for his Flute work on "Air I Breathe". To-date, Merlon has released 9 albums and appears to show no signs of stopping.

Merlon, the Husband and Father​

What makes Devine an inspiration is his love for his wife, for his children, and for God. While trying to secure our interview with Merlon, it seemed as if he was on a one month long anniversary getaway with his wife. His IG was filled post after post of the two in the deepest of love which is a beautiful sight. Many people like to speak the words of how we should conduct ourselves but Merlon walks it which makes his music even more impactful.

Merlon Devine Releases New Single “Stirred”​

On October 22, 2022, Devine released "Stirred" the 3rd single from his "Soul Jazz" album (2021). In this hip and upbeat track Merlon serenades listeners with soulful soprano and airy flute work. What makes Devine's music so amazing is that it is firmly grounded in Black American tradition. He gives you a smooth and soul filled sound without filtering out the rhythm that makes Black music so impactful and popular.
