I will start by saying that I don't like either Trump or Biden. Honestly, I'd much prefer someone else being president over these two. I kinda liked that Andrew Wang dude, but he didn't fight very hard and we ended up with Biden, who seems braindead most of the time. I honestly can't see Biden surviving most of his presidency, he seems in rough shape mentally and kinda physically.
What are your thoughts on these two? Would you rather Trump as president instead or maybe someone else completely?
Growing up my mom forced me to go to church every Sunday. These days I'm not very religious. I do believe in god, but I don't go to church much. I will go to church with my mom whenever I visit her though, but other than that, I haven't went to church in a couple years now. I've never been one to be too religious, but I say more power to you if you are. I respect anyone's choice to believe what they want. It's just never really been my thing.
I've been on a documentary kick as of late, especially after watching the Last Dance and was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for any others? I know ESPN has a ton of great options, but I have no idea what to pick next. Any suggestions to add to my watchlist?
I absolutely hate when white guys say "you're pretty for a black girl". It's such a backhanded insult and they truly think they're saying it as a compliment. I think it's statements like this that can cause young black girls to feel like they aren't beautiful because of their skin tone. I know black men must hear a version of the same thing too. Have you ever dealt with this? How did you respond?
The FBI released hate crime statistics for 2020 and it shows how much of a farce Stop Asian Hate was.
The 2020 data submitted to the FBI by more than 15,000 law enforcement agencies across the country, identified 7,759 hate crimes in 2020, a 6 percent increase over 2019 and the highest tally since 2008, according to the report on Monday.
The FBI data showed the number of offences targeting Black people rose to 2,755 from 1,930 and incidents against Asians jumped to 274 from 158.
Black folks in America tend to be judged based on others, not based on our own accountability. This is a problem. It isn't right or fair to be judged by someone else's actions simply because we share the same skin color. I do my best to not judge other people based on one common denominator. That is a foolish thing to do but I think most people do it, regardless of skin color, income level, etc.
How can we overcome something like this when it is widely acceptable? I mean you see it in religion, politics, and so on these days. Like people get thrown into a group and judged based on what other people in that group do. How are we meant to stop this pattern of ignorance when it is so heavily established and widely accepted in this country and in different cultures?
Here's the first in a series of articles I'm writing.
Your Definition of Blackness is Impeding Your Success
By J. Marcase
Is “Black” a race, a skin tone, a nationality, or a way of thinking? Like all arbitrary terms, each answer could be true or false depending on who you ask. More insidious, is what this word can mean to one on a subconscious level. To some, the word Black is synonymous with deficiency, debauchery, salaciousness, and impulsiveness which become the bookends that confine their personal growth and development.
I would like for you to re-examine your Black identity and decouple it from a particular activity or state of being and instead view it as an ideology. An ideology where you cooperate with, advocate for, and prioritize like-minded Black people (from here forth referred to as “the code”). What is the benefit of this you may ask? Well to get to that answer, let’s examine the pitfalls of our old way of defining Blackness.
Defining Blackness by Activities “Brothas, don’t jet ski”, “Sistas don’t be doing yoga”, “Black people don’t eat organic” and etc are all self-limiting phrases that are spoken by those who define blackness by activities. The danger in this, is that Blackness becomes dogmatic and confined to a socially acceptable group of activities. Now what happens if the group of activities the community has aligned around are self-destructive, unproductive, and/or salacious?”. It creates a cycle where the community participates in and perpetuates self-destructive behaviors and shuns everything that can break the cycle saying, “that’s what those other folk do”. To make this tangible, we have:
Marcus: Smokes, drinks, listens to rap, gang bangs, and curses.
Jason: Well-dressed, doesn’t drink or smoke, listens to rock, and dirt bikes every weekend.
When blackness is defined by activities, Marcus can present as more authentically black due to increased participation in activities deemed socially acceptable. The limitations of this frame of thought are that it does not consider if any of these individuals abide by “The Code”. Marcus may have a higher social participation than Jason, but Marcus is staunchly against cooperating with, advocating for, and prioritizing like-minded Black people thus making him an enemy to progress. Individuals like Marcus make the best government informants/agents as they have street credibility but no allegiance to the greater group.
Defining Blackness by State of Being “Man you ain’t from the hood”, “you ain’t ever struggled”, “you don’t be in the hood” these are phrases we hear uttered by those who define blackness by a State of Being. These individuals view their blackness based on where they live, who they associate with, and their economic status which at face value does not appear to be problematic; but what if the socially accepted state of being is one of disrepair, disorder, and deprivation? Well, it results in individuals who perpetuate a cycle of poverty because the very thought of success, comfort, and abundance is an affront to their identity. This thought process knows no economic bounds and manifests itself in different ways. Let’s identify 3 different personas in the Black community and see how this mind state could potentially impact them:
Marcus: Born in poverty and still impoverished — Individuals of this persona are typically conditioned to view a life of lacking as how things are supposed to be. Any Black person living a life of abundance or comfort is typically viewed as an affront to their world view and spurns jealously and contempt. To rationalize success, these individuals typically assume a negative action was required to obtain said success e.g selling out to the white man, Illuminati sacrifices, etc. This allows them to dismiss success as a failure of moral character rather than said success serving as a spotlight on their own personal failure.
Tyson: Born in poverty but improved economic status — Although these individuals have left the hood, they still feel as if they must maintain relationships and respectability in the hood to protect their Blackness. Instead of serving as a beacon of light to individuals like Marcus, they place Marcus on a pedestal and constantly seek his acceptance. This is commonly seen in rappers who have moved on to a life of abundance but constantly jeopardize their livelihood by hanging around individuals like Marcus and attempting to present themselves as one.
Jason: Never in Poverty — Typically the progeny of a person like Tyson and are taught that people like Marcus is where their Blackness resides. Individuals like Jason can suffer from an identity crisis as the group they are seeking ideological acceptance from is against everything that provides them comfort and abundance. In other words, to be fully accepted as Black by Marcus, Jason must forgo everything that provides him a life of comfort. This fork in the road is typically where an individual sacrifices it all or pulls away from the ideology entirely and seeks understanding elsewhere.
Defining Blackness as a state of being can lead to the entire community, regardless of economics, perpetuating and reinforcing a mind state of poverty. Once again, this does not consider a person’s allegiance to the community, therefore, the people deemed most “Black” can also be one of the most dysfunctional and detrimental to the community.
So, what’s the solution you must ask? To take from earlier in the piece, the solution is to view your Blackness as an ideology. An ideology where you cooperate with, advocate for, and prioritize like-minded Black people. An ideology where you look at life, politics, white supremacy, etc. through the eyes of a Black person and always promote Black self-interest.
For far too long, our elders have instructed us to be America’s moral compass but that’s a thankless role that ends in nothing structurally changing. We need to be fierce advocates of our own self-interest at all costs, and it starts by changing how we see ourselves.
It doesn't have to be anything cosmetic but just something that you take time out of your weekly schedule to do for yourself. I wouldn't say I have anything consistent that I do but I do like to take some time and go for a quiet walk every now and then. I also like to do an at home spa night where I'll do my nails while watching a movie or something along those lines. I try to find anything that can take my mind off of work or whatever is going on for a bit lol
Black QBs are becoming more of the norm, these days, from the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson, Dak Prescott, and more. Back in the day, you'd see mostly white QBs leading teams, but now more than ever, black men are leading teams. But, why isn't it that we don't see more black QBs leading teams? I imagine soon enough more and more teams will have black QBs taking the lead.
Do you want to see more black QBs given the chance to lead a team?
I've wanted to try my hands at becoming a YouTuber, but it sees YouTube is dying out as of late. Does anyone here do YouTube? How is it? If you're getting the views, are you making good money as well? Back in the day I heard YouTube was great for making money, but these days it seems like it's not as useful anymore, and it's also tougher to get into.
Do you think it's even worth it to jump into YouTube now with all the changed they've made over the years?
When you play anything, like basketball, football, etc. do you guys get physical to get the win? Or do you just play to have fun? When I play, I try not to get physical, unless the person I guard is being an ass and is trying to push me around a bit. I don't do that, so if you act up, I will get physical, and it won't' be fun haha for the other dude!
Anyway, if I can, I try not to get too physical. On top of that, my knees haven't done so well in recent years, so I try not to go too overboard with any sport. But, you bet your ass if you at up on me, I'm going to act up on you right back.
I feel like as I've gotten older, I'm seeing my friends less and less. This is especially the case with a few of my girl friends who have kids now. We're lucky if we see each other once a month! Of course this is all worse with the pandemic but I was already feeling this before everything shut down.
I think the best approach to solving issues starts in the small, more localized areas. Obviously, you want to get your crap together in your own home but once you got things squared off, what is the next move? I want to work on improving my community. Ensure things stay clean and maintained, crime doesn't get higher, and so on. What are some approaches to doing this so I can get an idea?
Lately I've been eating like crap, and I need to change that. What is your diet like? Do you guys do any type of diets to help keep the weight off or to just live a healthier lifestyle? I want to try the OMAD diet myself, but idk if I want to just eat one meal a day.
What diets do you use? I'm thinking of getting back into fitness as well, as I could use all the help right now.
The abortion debate is waging more and more these days, as I hear politicians are trying to overturn roe v wade. which made it legal to get an abortion in the US. What is your opinion on abortion? Do you find it morally wrong? Or do you feel a woman should have the choice to abort a fetus if she wants to?
I guess politicians right now are trying to make it illegal to abort a fetus 15 weeks and older, so you would need to get an abortion before that point, otherwise you'll be forced to carry the child till birth.
In all honesty. I am for abortion rights for women. I think they should be allowed to abort a fetus if they want to. It's their body, and their choice. I think at a certain point though, you shouldn't be able to abort a child. Like when you're full on showing and ready to pop. But other than that, I think a woman should be able to abort without issue.
Dude, when is it going to end? I didn't see Tom Brady bringing the Buccs to the Superbowl last season, but he did. It's crazy to see this dude winning so many. Anyway, do you think he and his Buccaneers can win another? Honestly I hope not, because I'm tired of Brady winning them all. Lets get some younger QBs out there.
It just seems like he wants more superbowl wins, and I just want a break from the guy. What about you?
I have some tattoos and I fear that if I show them off, it will be tougher for me to find work. Have you had any issues because of your tattoos? I want to get a sleeve on both arms, but I worry if I ever work an office job, they will not allow me to show them off at all.
I figure, as long as my tattoos on my arms and any visible areas is SFW, but anything under the clothes can of course be NSFW. :D
What do you guys consider to be your favorite sports games? I have a fond place for NBA Jam, I grew up playing the game. Plus the likes of NBA Street, NFL Street, NFL Blitz. Those games are classics. Sad to see EA not doing anything either IP. :(
As for my favorite of all time, it'd have to be ESPN NFL 2K5 on the PS2 and Xbox. It's so good, that I think it destroys current Madden NFL in gameplay, presentation and everything else. It's sad how far Madden NFL has fallen. I also really enjoyed ESPN NBA 2K5, at the time, and would consider it to be one of my favorite basketball games.
You can answer this as a guy or gal but I want input from the ladies specifically.
When it comes to your own hair, what preference do you have? I know a lot of ladies who rock wigs and I get it. It is convenient and cheaper than having to get your hair done all the time. I have a few myself that I used to wear a lot. I have gotten weave done a few times and just didn't like what it was doing to my natural hair. It was falling out and thinning on the edges so I stopped. I decided to go natural a few years ago. I cleaned up my diet and working on my haircare routine and I am happy to say I can get some good length now! So for me, I like being natural.
My opinion on fake nails is mixed. I feel like they can look nice and really add a nice feminine touch to a woman's style but some of the nails I see women rocking are just awful. Like when you get them done and have them longer than a certain length, it just screams "trashy" to me. I have had mine done and I do enjoy it but I don't go overboard with it. This is a case where less is more and if you get more, it just looks terrible. It doesn't help I got an RN degree and know about the germs those long nails harbor either.
This looks nice:
This DOES NOT:
I want the opinions of both men and women here though. Like do you think they are classy or trashy?
What are you satisfied with the most, money or your job? What do you think is more important? I believe both are equally important and interlinked but work contentment is what I prefer the most as I like to learn new skills and challenge myself for the new tasks which eventually enhances my knowledge.
By moving in silence I mean keep your goals and moves to yourself until they're done or set in stone. I was reading something that said it was important for women to do this because announcing your goals can sometimes put a target on your back and you'll have people trying to tear you down. I think this applies to any POC though, you never know who's waiting for you to slip up so they can knock you down. So do you keep your goals to yourself or do you announce them?
Alright, imagine you’ve been dating someone for a few months. Things are going well but no one has mentioned anything about a title. Should a man or woman bring up the topic? If someone asks, what are we…what do you say?
Sadly I hate to say it, but it seems like the Jake and Logan Paul has brought boxing back. Before them, it wasn't doing much of anything. Yeah we had Mayweather vs McGregor, but I feel like ever since these annoying Paul brothers came to the picture, boxing has gained so much popularity.
I hate these guys, but I gotta admit, without them, I feel like boxing wouldn't be this mainstream like it used to be.
But, I think it's also because people want to see these guys knocked out, and I think that's partly fueling the popularity these days.
Do you think Boxing is back? Or is it just a quick comeback before it's forgotten again?
