Right now someone could potentially lose their job, company lose money etc for being too openly racist.
Prior to the 1960s a police could murder a black person broad open daylight and say openly that did it because he was black and there was little discussion about if he would be charged with a crime. Even if he were there was a 100% guarantee he'll get off.
