you don't just see this pigment displacement in Latino countries and communities, you see it in Asian ones as well. This all ties in with wealth and power and the old mindset of thinking. People with wealth used to have more pale skin cause they were not out working the fields and doing labor in the sun. They were hid away and protected. Fair skin is viewed as a status symbol of wealth and sadly this mindset has never left people. This is why you see so many black women and Latino women in the industry lighten their skin. Men tend not to fall victim to it themselves directly but many of them take up to sleeping and marrying fairer skinned women, again as a status symbol.
