Carribean Reparations
There is a Caribbean organization called Caricom who have been on a reparations move for a minute.
I look at reparations movements among the Black diaspora just out of interest. Not feeling what I am seeing so far.
I love that Grenada is seeking it on their own. The CARICOM reparations movement wants education, a formal apology and there is no specific language on who gets it. Meaning is it the descendants of the African slaves or do the Indians and Chinese, other non Blacks get any? No mention of lineage based which may or may not include Caribbean living or born elsewhere of West Indian parents like the UK, Canada and America.
My guess is they will all lives matter the money. Meaning it will benefit non descendants and they won't do direct payments. My guess is the governments will get the money and f*ck it off like they did the tourism money, the land, the natural resources, etc The only thing from this list I like is debt forgiveness. The rest is various levels of bullsh*t.
Hate to sound pessimistic but its what I am seeing so far. My advice to islands like Grenada or others who have a view of it similar to the reparations movement in America is to go it alone. Its better as a group if the group is really on some black empowerment ish.
Lastly, if they were playing 3D chess as well las black empowerment globally, they would formally support, via their governments, the reparations movement in America for FBAs. Once America kicks in, its easier to pressure the Brits, French, Spanish, all of them.
Germany pays reparations to Israel but not to its crimes in Nambia and Africa? Belgium not paying the Congo for possibly 20 million killed, millions maimed?
Africa, the Caribbean, should be trying to work with everyone to bounce ideas off each other, mutual support, etc.
I don't expect it to happen...yet. Maybe ever.
