My "Can of Whoop Ass" opened the day we were integrated! Several of us walked up the hill together to the new school. All we saw was angry white kids, yelling & spitting. I balled up my fists & started punching & kicking. The other Black kids with me joined the fight.
We all ended up in the principal's office & our parents were called. The other Mothers picked them up, while I waited for my Mom. The principal took a paddle with holes out of his desk. "Since you were the first one to start fighting, you'll be punished"!
This bald, white man is towering over me, so before he struck me, I kicked him in the leg & ran!
The secretary grabbed me & shoved me back into the principal's office. He was good & mad, but still rubbing his leg. Then, he limped over & started hitting me with that paddle. My skin was being sucked up in those holes & I was screaming! Heard my Mom, "Nobody hits my child, but me" & she slapped the 💩 outta dude! I thought for sure Mom was going to jail, but she didn't. She grabbed my hand & we left.
I was suspended for 2 days. Dad & Mom were at the school the next day, talked with the principal, gathered my assignments.
After returning, I received lots of evil looks, but nobody dared call me out my name or spit on me & the group that I walked to school with became my close friends. When you saw one of us, you saw ALL of us! 💯😁✊🏽
