Do you care about your online privacy?

This is a topic I can say I never thought I would care about up until a few years ago. I became rather paranoid with things when all these reports were coming out about how the government and the big tech corporations were spying on us and using our information for capital gain. I got away from Windows and run Linux only these days. I also block places like Facebook, Insta, and Twitter on my computer and laptop. I can still access them if I need to from a secondary browser that I run a VPN through. Needless to say, I take it very seriously these days.

How about you - is this something you concern yourself with?

Yes i used to be more paranoid about it but lately i don't care that much. If people want my info i know they can find a way to get it. But of course i don't make it easy for them.

I care but if you're online, you basically have no privacy.

Yeah I care about it but like the others have said, there's not a lot I can do about it. Basically everything you use collects data.

I know, it is the sad truth. You can do everything possible but something is still being tracked. I just don't want to hand it over without a fight. I made sure my internet provider isn't getting my info either by switching the DNS. Screw them! lol

Yes, I live by the philosophy of, "if it's private, don't put it online and don't do it near a cell phone".

Maybe it is just me, but I legit have my laptop camera covered as well as my front-facing camera on my phone covered. I never buy cameras or camcorders that have wifi access either or use my phone to take pictures I wouldn't want leaked out into the world.

That's good common sense behavior, when you have everything connected to the internet, people can access it. You cant always depend for the light to cone on when the camera is active.

Yeah and what really made me realize I wasn't the crazy one was when that lizard dude who owns Facebook had his laptop camera covered. If he is covering it, then I can't imagine what he has heard of people doing!

Just look at the info Facebook holds on you. You can actually grab a download with all of the stuff you've commented, posted, liked, shared, viewed, etc. They have everything saved on you.

I think Google has a similar thing where if you allow them to track you, they save your searches and all kinds of other facts. It's crazy.

There are web browsers and apps you can use for more privacy, like DuckDuckGo, and the Brave browser, but I wouldn't trust anything on the web these days.

Yeah, there's not a whole lot we can do. I think it's just something we have to accept with using the web.

I hated when Facebook came out for this very reason. My online persona is just that. My business persona and club persona are all different characters. It's almost like a multiple personality type of deal, but necessary. I wish I could go into work and tell for how stupid they ass was on a regular basis, but I've got to maintain a certain degree of professionalism, class and formality in order for the real order of business to progress and the violation of my privacy threatens this EVERYDAY!!

That compartmentalization of your personas is important, like you said it helps you maneuver through the world. It’s one of things that ratchet people do not understand They only have one persona that they live 24/7, issue is, that persona isn’t appropriate everywhere.
