Think the XFL will come back in full force?

The XFL hasn't had the greatest history. I remember when it first started back in like 2001 when Vince McMahon owned it. And then again a few years ago when McMahon brought it back. It's went under a second time and now Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson now co-owns the league with some others.

Do you think the XFL with the Rock behind it, will draw enough viewers? I am all for extra football after the NFL season. I'm excited to see what it becomes.

The question I have is “why”. What gap does the NFL and College have that the XFL is addressing? Also what are they going to do differently than the previous iteration and the Arena Football league. There is such a small lane here IMO…it has to be some pretty damn good off NFL football to survive. Look at Ice Cube’s Big3, he giving a total different experience than the NBA.

It fills the football in the spring gap. It's a place where popular NFL busts and college wash outs can go. It's also an alternative to the NCAA for dudes that can't qualify.

When it came back it was doing pretty well, but Covid came at the wrong time for them.

I people will check it out especially with the Rock behind it.

I'll watch the XFL because it's a Black-owned league (despite all of his racially ambiguous movie roles, Dwayne Johnson is still a breh) .
Also, I think the XFL can work for a few reasons:
-We're still in a live sports/entertainment deficit, and fans will buy tickets to anything right now.
-The Rock can use his celebrity to attract sponsors, good players, a television network, and fans
-Ice Cube has laid a blueprint that The Rock can follow for off-season sports success.
-The old XFL didn't exist in the social media era. The new XFL will have IG, Twitter, Facebook, etc. at its disposal to attract & interact with fans worldwide.

I really think a spring pro league would be a smash hit if done right.

Yeah but is that a real gap? We just had two leagues fold trying to be that slot. I think they gotta differentiate the product somehow to get any traction. I don’t see people watching wack ass football just cuz it’s spring. Think about how electrifying the AFL was with the smaller fields but the football was supbar. If the football is subpar abd it’s trying to copy the NFL is DOA.

I think The Rock is the Jay Z of the XFL. McMahon is putting up $500M on this, he’s the real owner. He just sitting on the sidelines this time cuz he realized that football fans DGAF about him.

My brother was getting hyped over this years ago when they talked about bringing it back. I still don't think it can compete with the NFL or the college league. When it comes to sports, people care more about the sport itself and their own team. Like if I am going to watch a football game, I want to watch my home team or my college team, not some random team that was put together overnight.

More football is why I want it. They changed a bit of the game. I think they removed the kickoff and a few other aspects that slows the game down. I can't say I heard of Ice Cube's Big3, but I will for sure have to check that out.

That's the cool thing about it. When the XFL came back last year, it was starting to do exactly what you're saying. They have social media, albeit they didn't get a lot of hits, but with the Rock behind it, I can see it growing even more.

If they make it more than one season I will be impressed.
Yeah, they need to stick around for longer for anything to come of this. I hope that the XFL succeeds, because that only means more work for players not in the NFL and other football leagues out there.

As well, the XFL is being called a development league, so that players can easily be traded out to NFL teams if they so desire. That could be big if it works. Kinda how college goes into the NFL, well for the players who can't get a job at the moment in the NFL, they could try out for the XFL.

They’re specifically NOT marketing it as a development league, they not looking at the joint as a farm for NFL talent.

I wonder if players will get to have nicknames on their jerseys this time around.
Only certain football fans know who Rod Smart is, but "He Hate Me" is a LEGEND!
I hope not in this generation.

Really? I thought they made it pretty easy for players in the league to jump to the NFL, at least when it came back in 2019 or 2020. I just remember hearing about certain players from the XFL getting hired into the NFL. But, I may be thinking of that other football league that came out in 2019 or 2020. I forget what it was.

When the XFL came back the last time, they didn't allow for them to have nicknames. But I would be down for them to bring that option back.

    I keeps receipts breh:

XFL Commissioner & CEO Oliver Luck recently stated that he does not view The XFL, which is set to launch February 8th & 9th, 2020, as just a place to develop Future NFL Players, but as a league which is totally unique and separate from The NFL and other Professional Football Leagues.

XFL Viewed As Separate Product, Not Developmental League (xflnewshub.com)
