This is epic...the community got together and raised $1M in funding for the Hidden History Museum!

I was kind of concerned but I donated 3 times to do my part. Now let's hope they don't play games when its time to secure the land.

exactly, The property he originally wanted they actually undersold it to some white people I believe.
I had a feeling something like that would happen after I heard the news about the Crenshaw mall, add that up with how they did Nipsey, I thought it would be a countermove once we got the funds up for the site. At this point, any Black American hoping for a fair shake from the Justice System or WP in general is foolly delusional. THose of us who will survive this next ten years will have to be creative and adapt quickly and produce justice ourselves.

100%. They see us as nothing but a bunch of cowards who they can treat however they want. If we don't reverse that thinking they will continue the oppression until 90% of us are killed off and the rest trying to hold on tight to what we have.

The whole idea of a museum doesn't make sense to me at all. I would suggest things that make a return on investment from proven metrics. If Tariq would have made a small cannery, that would have been a much more beneficial idea than a museum.
Dole and Campbell's Soup would have been knocking as soon as inspection was passed. A museum was for emotional people that want to see "pictures of Black People on the wall" like in the movie Do The Right Thing.

On one hand, we do have a need for more Black owned businesses , but I'm not sure I would've donated for anything too far outside of Tariq's scope of expertise. Who would a cannery benefit outside of the initial investors? As someone who had to unlearn everything I was taught growing up, I can see the immediate benefits of a museum for everyone. This next generation of Blacks can't afford to be confused or misled. I was both, and only by sheer luck did I manage to avoid the pitfalls of people and family members that I grew up with, and I still found a way to put myself in the trick bag time and time again. Tariq has always followed through on his projects and even though i don't always rock with the people he rocks with, or agree with the pricing of some of his products, I do trust he's going to do something good with this money the community invested with him. I don't think he would tarnish his reputation by doing something janky or bootleg. But I do understand if people think that Blacks need something more immediate since our security, survival and resources are immediately threatened. For someone on the street, or about to get their lights cut off, this could be seen as a luxury. But from everything I've heard this has a chance to be a default community center--something we don't have enough of. You travel anywhere in the world and there is a JCC for any small hat to gather at. We're going to need something like that going forward.

The museum is low key out of expertise too. We really know him for books and movies not for a retail location. So I can see TheHarmattan point and we will see if Tariq bit off more than he can chew. Moving it to Atlanta is a bit of a fail.

I agree up to this point: If Tariq doesn't do this, who will? THis is the first time I've even heard of this idea and now that the dominant society is doing its best to erase the true history of FBA, it feels even more important for a project like this. Especially now that they can digitally scrub or sensor anything thats online.

This and the cultural aspect of being some kinda anchor facility to hold down a slew of Black business is sick too. I got faith in flex getting it done. Sometimes you gotta pivot and that’s what he’s doing

I don't think Tariq made it this far in life to fail with a project like this. It may not look like he originally envisioned and pitched us on, but I think it will be a far cry from Dr. Umar's pretend boarding school for Black Boys needing a mentor from a descendant of Bookman from Good Times.

He bought a bunch of abandoned buildings like an idiot. I always wondered why he didn't start small and rent out some commercial space and start the school there? Then as it grew bought the buildings. Grade A moron. He totally mismanaged the project, was in too deep when he found out, and then had to keep up the facade to save face.

He needed a smooth extra $1M to get that campus up to snuff and then he would have had a ton of other hurdles like staff, curriculum, teachers, etc. It was unsurmountable from the onset but people moved on faith rather than logic.

is that what happened? dammmmn thats beyond dumb. I can't believe no one hipped him to game. I've worked at charter schools as a teacher and they all rent business offices and run the schools from the buildings from year to year and if rent gets too high, they move. what good is owning a building but not owning the land beneath it?

That's the most cash flow responsible way to build a school but I think this dude was like a bridezilla and had this ultimate vision in his head. That's why just because someone talks good doesn't know they understand business. He is a powerful orator but I wouldn't trust him to run a chicken shack.

I don't think they see us as cowards. Maybe extremely naive or gullible.

His arrogance made him unable to acceptance guidance from those around him. It’s a troubling pattern I see with a lot of individuals who go from having nothing to something in the conscious community.

It’s not exclusive by any means but it is more apparent when someone with meager means shows humility and care for the community but when they come into money become egotistical and self-serving.

We have to be smarter about identifying these traits early on in people and keeping them at a distance. I see some new Black media personalities who I know will be horrible when they reach success.

I checked his videos recently within the last 2 weeks and he said that a new spot opened in the Crenshaw area and the people selling the property in the area have been very easy to work with, especially as of late with the US and world governments freezing and taking away the assets of Russian investors and property owners (including those in the LA area) due to their alliance with Putin. So the Russians are now trying to hurry up and sell before their assets and properties and taken away.

During his last video, however, he gave another update. They're now playing games with him again and he is still waiting on whether or not they will sell him the property. So much for attempting to take advantage of the Ukraine-Russian conflict to use it as an opportunity to secure property. Now we might have to wait longer for the museum.
