I feel like what was once useful is more a less just about booty calls and one-night-stands these days. I don't know anyone who uses dating apps around my age for serious relationships. They use them just when they feel like getting some and it is convenient I guess. This seems to be more the case with dating apps like Tinder vs dating websites but only older folks seem to use dating websites. At least from what I have seen.

How do you feel about online dating? Do you think it will be taken more seriously in the future? Have you ever dated someone you met on an app?

Dating apps and dating sites have gotten worse over the years. I tried using dating sites in the past, and they have worked for me to some extent, but in recent memory they've gotten worse. POF and Okcupid, the two free services you can use, are owned by Match.com, a paid for dating site. I used to be on both the free sites, but they became worse when match came in. I don't know how many fake accounts I encountered.

And the women who were on there, happened to be women with 3 kids or more and often wanted to get married right away. The others were there just for hookups. And hey, good on you, but I'm looking for a stable relationship myself. So like nah, dating sites are a pass for me these days.

As you stated, it is wholly dependent on the app you're frequenting. Apps like Tinder are hook up apps but other apps like Hinge and Bumble have more people looking for meaningful relationships. I used to shun online dating but due to COVID I started trying it and was very successful. No matter where you meet people, library, bar, etc there will be a population of people just looking for sex. Just have to ask the right questions upfront to gauge their intention and then trust your intuition and have the guts to leave them alone even if they are handsome.

You made some great points. As long as people are clear in their intentions.

Yeah I don't know anyone on those app that's looking for something serious. It's an easy way for hook ups and one night stands and they take advantage of it.

Someone in my family actually met his wife on a Facebook dating group so that's always an option too lol
Most of the time this is what I have seen as well. Of course, some are are looking for serious relationships.

I think people should be 100 percent honest in what they are looking for. No bull crap either. If a person wants sex (friends with benefits), they should say that. If a person wants a serious relationship, then a person should say that.

I believe online dating is dangerous and a easy way to endanger oneself. I have heard of enough stories of women and men getting harmed or murdered from those dating sites. No thank you. I’m old fashioned anyway.
You can get caught up either way. You have to be smart and observant no matter how you date.
