I have some family videos on VHS that I would like to convert to digital. I've been looking around the web for some capture devices, and I found a few, one I am considering is the Easy VHS to DVD device. It's just a USB dongle with an S-Video and AV connections. I have a VCR in my garage somewhere so I will have to bring that out, but are there any others that may be better suited for capturing VHS?

Also, I kinda want to go through the tapes I used to record my shows when I was a kid. I had a thing about recording stuff on VHS, thought it was so cool as a kid. So I might have a bunch of tapes with commercials and stuff, kinda tempted to record those and upload them to YouTube haha!

Do you guys know of any other capture devices to copy VHS tapes?

I have no experience with this. I do know that my mom did get some old tapes put on DVD. She went to a business to get this done. I don't think it was too expensive. You should look into prices and compare which would be better financially. It might work out to being not too much more to just have someone else do it for you.

I'll keep that in mind. I remember hearing a while back that there are some businesses that will recover your tape and digitize them for you. But always felt they were a bit pricey. Figured if I could do it, it could also be a fun project for me. But I'll keep that in mind for some of the videos. I have a lot, so idk if I want to convert them all myself.

That's a big worry of mine. I have video of family that have since passed, and I've been wanting to save that for as long as possible. One tape I found looked fine to the eye, but when playing it was really bad and there was no audio. I worry that the other tapes are also starting to go. I mean, we're probably going on 30 years+ for some of these tapes, so I don't know how much longer we have to save them.

I saw that one on my search. Has good reviews, but some sites say it's not very good. But, for the price, and the fact that it does have good reviews on Amazon, I may as well grab it. The other devices I see on Amazon and elsewhere look really cheap and low quality.
