When I was growing up, I was obsessed with snakes, lizards, and turtles. I wanted to have some by my mom never let me. She hates reptiles and didn't want any of them in her house. I have friends that own some. One has a bearded dragon and that little mf'er is mean as hell! It seems like he is a very high-maintenance pet to have as well. I started looking up different types you can have as pets and I have come to the conclusion that they are all high-maintenance creatures and I don't think I will bother with one anymore. lol

Anyone here own any reptiles? Do you think they are all high-maintenance?

I have had Anoles, Water Dragons, Skinks, Spiny Tail Iguanas, Tegue Monitors.

Keeping their cages clean isn't hard at all, you can tell when someone has one of those but doesn't clean it at least once a week the entire place WILL have a odor.

I used to own a Ball python. They are not too much of a hassle. It was noticeable in my bank account as to the vet care but not a big drain.

I like treating animals the way I would want to be treated concerning the animals nature. I my mind, feeding a snake a dead mouse is like someone feeding me leftovers after a few days. So, I would always feed the snake with a live mouse. I remember buying a mouse for $5.99 and I would buy one every week.

Keeping in mind this was in the early 2000s

I've had 2 snake's, python and a boa. I let mine roam in my office for a few years, until the python forced my screen open one of my open windows and got out, found him chilling in the middle of the street. Actually the neighbors came and told me it was out there, lol.
They can be a challenge to care for, with feedings and tracking down where they sh*t, after a while I got sick of them trashing my office. They can go and reach anything, anywhere. The boa killed the python by pushing it off a shelf, about a 10 foot drop, landed on something hard and broke its spine.
The other I gave away, I have cats and I didn't want him to kill one.
    Old pic of him.

I heard ball pythons are pretty chill so long as you care for them properly but they aren't cheap when it comes to enclosures and food. I did handle one before but it was only a baby. I was helping a friend feed it. Didn't want to do live mice so they were doing frozen pinkies and the snake mistook my finger and bit down on it and started trying to choke out my hand lol

I only feed mine live, it's not expensive, I'd feed them 2-3 rats each every 2 weeks.
