Maybe I was born in the wrong time cause I cannot stand most current rap. Especially not the ish that got popular the last 5 or so year. It is all noises and incoherent stuttering. I have a neighbor whose kids bump this music and it drives me nuts. Is this just part of getting older? I can't be the only one who thinks this music is trash. Like the stuff back in the 80s and 90s was poetic. This is just ignorant and not in a good way.

Black mainstream music has hit all new lows. The R&B and Rap are all ass.

True, but to a greater degree, who's real fault is that?? WE as BP, to an extent, have sold out the root true of these very genres for money, fame and the dying validation from those very culture vultures, who have gulped it up, watered it down, and manipulated it to where it's more quantity over quality. WE as BP don't take greater care and respect enough our living legends/icons. I too feel both Rap and R&B are in the shape it's in is because many of the old heads failed at not reaching out more to the new as far as in preparing and schooling them. The vibe was more "I got mine, you gotta get yours!"

I mentioned this as work and a white dude of all people said this : "It is because they are trying to cater to people who are most likely to buy concert tickets and buy the albums and that is white kids". These fools are making white people club music! It makes sense. No wonder I can't stand it. I am not into this kind of mindless crap. I like poetry and purpose in music if it has lyrics.

I've seen just as many Black people liking this music too. It's coming out every Dodge Charger and Challenger that passes by with the ultra loud exhaust on the base model.

I see the same thing in Dallas as well.. it's almost like the IQ's of the population dropped dramatically... I heard a sista say at one point that she doesn't like KRS-ONE, Kendrick Lamar & J Cole. She stated that she "wanted to hear about sex, guns and ratchet shit"...

100! I'm turning into an old man because everytime I see people listening to that I look like:

Disgusted Oh My God GIF by The Maury Show

It sounds so dumb and ridiculous. I hadn't listened to Rap for about a year straight right before Nas dropped King's Disease 1. It reminded me what I liked about it.

These young folk know nothing of conscience positive rap like Public Enemy, B.D.P. (That stands for Boogie Down Productions for you young slow folk) The Real Roxanne, U.T.F.O. (You young mfs can go look that on up yourselves), LL Cool J, Eric B & Rakim (I got problem with that MF but that’s for another time), Kool G. Rap, J.J. Fad or Run D.M.C. NOTHING.
This new stuff? Naw it gets no play in the cars. I am too old for this new ish, hell I thought PANDA was supposed to be saving those animals. Nope young cuz pops it on and I can’t make out WTF dude was sayin. All I got was “I gotz hoes In Atlanta and something like Imma get at you wit those bananas” Ok I understand that meaning he has access to AK47s. The beat was bangin but other than that? Nope we don’t listen to that new age crap.

Rap stopped being my #1 genre when Soulja Boy hit the scene. To me, everything after him was a straight decline in intellect, command of the English language, and sense.

I sometimes wish I was born in the 50's or 60's so that I could have experienced the 70's era of music as an adult. I would love to have the feeling of hearing "Let's Groove Tonight" for the very first time on the radio. I couldn't imagine how amazing it sounded at the time.

Not only did I see EWF sing LET'S GROOVE TONIGHT, I also saw Tower of Power & AWB at the Winterland arena in San Francisco. This was before condos were put up & Winterland was torn down.

I just can't understand why though. Like if you listen to the type of music you'd hear at a white club, it is the same but with a bit more techno or something. It just isn't appealing to me at all. It is like watered down hip-hop. If you listen to the stuff from back in the day, it blows this crap out the water.

You'll hear every single Black genre at a White club though.

I don't think it ever was...... it was a gimmick and a bad one. Most if these songs today two years from now you won't even remember them or who even made them. Yet we can remember songs from 30/40 years ago......that's telling.
Music has become so disposable and it’s because the corporations only care about profit. It’s why we need to control our own shit.

That is true. I think it is mostly those mash-ups though. Where the DJ will just mix one song after another. I think white people tend to like our music, style, arts, food, etc. but they don't like admitting we created those things.
