Here's the thing: Even though FBA/ADOS invented Hip-Hop (and jazz, and gospel, and rock, and the blues, and a bunch of other musical genres) that's not the issue. We invented it, but so what?
We're not the ones who make the big money from our creation! We invented it, white folks & small hats monetized it. THAT is the important part, and that is a huge problem!
Inventing the culture is cool, but what's important is that we should OWN it. Not only do the whites own rap, they dictate the toxic music that Black artists make, and they decide to push that toxicity onto our communities. They have molded our creation into a machine to push the worst stereotypes of Black Americans onto the world stage.
Claiming invention doesn't benefit us if we don't control it.

Brother Rollie Forbes I've heard this argument before and I understand. We don't own rock and roll, we don't own jazz, we don't own R&B etc etc but the fact still remains that all of these other cultures are taking a page out of the white supremacist handbook. We have to start establishing our creations in order to hold on to them. We cannot continue making the same mistakes over and over again.

I blame the original black independent labels for selling out the music and culture to the major labels.

Credit to the ones who stood stall and didn't sell their record companies.

Rush Simmons, as one example, was already a multi millionaire when he sold Def Jam. He and others were complaining the Grammys didn't acknowledge the music with a category. So f*cking what? We had our own award shows and they were lit and had high ratings. When the grammys came they were giving awards to the most pop mainstream rappers at first. MTV wouldn't play rap for a while till they had no choice because of white boys demanding to see it.

The Source is white owned. So was And1. They made sure they stayed behind the scenes and had black faces up front. It's something we as black people keep repeating. We let others monetize it, be it hip hop, reggae, jazz, whatever. We had our own labels and needed white gratification.

Prince learned late but he learned. Credit to guys like E 40 and others who kept their own record companies.

Had there been desire for white validation, we'd have had a few black billionaires from the music industry by now.

Let's imagine that we can convince the entire planet that we created Hip-Hop. Everybody knows it, and nobody else falsely claims creating it anymore.
Then what?
Will the ownership of Def Jam revert back to us? Will Lyor Cohen get out of the business? Will DJ Vlad, DJ Akedemiks and all of the other culture vultures dissappear? Will the Jerry Hellers of the world find some other group to exploit? All we would get is bragging rights, and those don't pay the rent.
Like you said, Brother, we've lost every other art form that we created, and we've lost Hip-Hop, too.
The good news is that we have an opportunity to own & gatekeep the next big thing that we create. Going forward, we need to do everything we can to prevent the devil from robbing us yet again.

Music is the easiest industry for Blacks to own. We not only have the talent, but have the people in every aspect. Sports and entertainment were always the main 2 industries we were allowed to excel in without as much barriers as say.....medicine or stock trading on Wall Street as 2 examples.

We have run major labels. We know every single part of the music industry.

We just don't have enough of those with knowledge willing to get together and make it happen.

We can easily have several billionaires and scores of millionaires within 5 years if the ones with the know how were on code.
