I listen to Tariq for both, I respect his perspective and his extensive knowledge of black history. Despite the criticism he gets I find him as a great introductory tool for unaware FBAs to the issues of reparations. I find it easier to show relatives Tariq to get them up to speed than breaking down The Compromise of 1877.

I've listened to him since his Mack Lessons days and I am forever grateful to him for being the main reason I really got into pro blackness and B1. Not that I wasn't before, but it was like most, you complain, trade articles do the 'see this shyt here?' thing.

I became far more active. There are some things I can do less of, such as the beefs and a few things here and there but no one is perfect. I listen to Jason Black religiously. I haven't missed any of his broadcasts in months. But I can't say I've listened to every single one of Tariq's broadcasts. Pretty much the vast majority though.

But the long answer to your short question is, I listen for educational value. I get my entertainment elsewhere.

Makes sense. Tariq is somebody who can break down concepts so people can understand them.

Totally feel you here. I am subscribed to too many people to be able to watch every single video that any person puts out. I realized that it is too time consuming so I choose the videos I want to watch or listen to carefully.

Also, Tariq appeals to all but he is from the streets so he connects with the average brotha more than maybe Jason Black, Dr. Boyce.

You can see Tariq and Dr. Umar came from a bit of the streets. Dr. Boyce, Dr. Claude Anderson, if you said they grew up middle class you wouldn't be surprised. Absolutely NOTHING wrong with them if they did, and I'm a HUGE fan of Dr. Anderson (we need him in major media more) just saying that Tariq can appeal to the homie on the corner and get him on board easier than the latter.

His post Museum functions were well attended so the museum issues/controversy hasn't hurt him much if at all. His subscriptions are up as well.

What I see that has changed is white supremacists are far more active with regards to him. Wasn't like that 5 years ago. That is actually a good sign.

I am hoping with the added attention, he represents the cause well. My advice out loud is cut back on the beefing, puppets, cartoons. In the past it was only blacks seeing it for the most part but with the larger media involved with him more, it will make him lose a bit of credibility.

He's been on tv before, MTV, late night, so he knows how it works but this is serious as opposed to his previous stuff.

His next movie seems to be the hip hop history one. That will be the big test to see how much if at all the controversy over the museum's use has hurt him or not. We'll see if people donate as much as before.

I think the people who are upset with him are a small minority. I'm not that upset about it, but I do hold people to their word, and he wasn't transparent enough for me on this deal. If he wanted to make things right and give monies back to everyone who is disgruntled on some square business, it would be no harm, no foul. But on the content side of the game....I find PBT and TBA my 1st choices...if I'm looking for something to listen to while I'm winding down, then Tariq is the right balance of funny and informative.

I'm just curious as to how many folks here listen to Tariq for Black news and how many listen to him for entertainment value.
I used to listen for both reasons but leaned more towards the entertainment side when he started to come across as a Black Alex Jones. He would push some wild conspiracies but intellligently use terms like “people are saying” and “I’ve been hearing” to make it appear like the crazy things that would follow was just him relaying what he heard on the streets.

I remember when our brother Nipsey was murdered he was on location saying “people are saying it was a military hit” and I couldn’t help but cringe. You can’t trust a news source that just says whatever whenever without any substantiation. However, I still listened and supported because eventhough he was highly inaccurate and imprecise he was still a great gateway into understanding things from a Black perspective.

But I fully stopped listening for what basically boils down to what I perceive as a total lack of respect for the Black community.

For example, a Black woman “Tara” who is a known activist in the streets of LA asked him about the HHM and the usage of funds and he called her a jealous groupie that wanted to sleep with him but then a few weeks later a White man said to his face that Black Americans are buck broken and he said nothing…in fact he was very respectful and agreed with the White man.

It is a constant with him, he never answers to Black people for anything…if a Black person questions him about anything he starts calling them a broke ass dusty nigga or baby mama that needs to go back to Africa and etc. No one can deny this at all. Then you pair it with the fact that the videographers, editors, and publicist behind Hidden Colors and other films are White, majority White vendors at the museum, and etc it just becomes too much to overlook.

If you can, more power to you but I can’t. Any or you can ask me anything and I will never call you out your name because I love Black people and want to see us win.

I dont intend this post to spark a debate, if you disagree that’s cool. No need to argue about it.

Unfortunately, as in your example, we are usually harder on our own black folks than the enemy. Sometimes, for reasons that aren't solid. I'm not talking straight out coons, be they domestic or foreign but on the same 'team'.

Anyone who is harder on Black people than they are towards our enemy is not on the same team. Those are the people who can be swayed because they hold a modicum of deference or sympathy to an opposing force.

He's cool but I think he lives rent free in too many people's mind and that tends to take focus off the issues at hand......I understand fully why Jason Black and PBT stay anonymous. Tariq is "edutainment" Jason Black and PBT are no nonsense information and knowledge so it balances out. They aren't the only people I listen too as ultimately you have to gather information from different sources if you want to put pieces of the puzzle together. I never worried about money I've donated it's not going to make me or break me you give money to causes you believe in once it leaves my hands to yours it's yours I no longer worry about it and damn sure won't hold a grudge over it but it will make it harder for me to give you money again. I wish him well with the museum and upcoming movies. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Just be clear, again, to any and all, my post was about Tariq being harder on that activist than a white supremacist at times. Jay's story on the local activist who was an ally. Never heard it and surprised. I like Tariq but I think one of his faults is being oversensitive to anyone who has any little bit of criticism. TBA can be a wee bit like that as well. Has to be 100 percent correct. Someone will say I agree with 95 percent of what you say and a human frailty we have when we are in the public eye is get on a person about the 5 percent they disagree on. It's pretty much anyone who has that kind of platform, on any subject, sports.

I said something a long time ago on a post. That if you agree 100 percent of the time with anyone, its not a good thing. It could be some thing inconsequential.

    Anyway, for clarity sake.

Well Stated! Along the lines of my thoughts also. I donated to the museum sometime a little after it reached 500k I think, but I didn't use my real name, so I don't even know of my online name is anywhere inside the museum but it's whatever because I just wanted to help. HIs movies I don't donate to. (yet anyways) I'm more inclined to send a few bucks over to PBT from time to time really. When I see the hard work and dedication, I feel more compelled to help & support and I DO check the paperwork beforehand. I have Tariq's Buck Breaking movie but haven't watched it yet and depending on how hard it hits WS I'll make my choice on if I'll want to support the second one he wants to do.

Yeah he does do that and It's exactly what you said plus three other reasons from what I've noticed over the years.
1: It's content for him and he seems to be unknowingly wired in his mind to respond that way as a knee jerk reaction for defense and also entertainment/comedy content. AI has pushed his pettiness to a whole... other... level!

2: Many times he's quick to go through callers fishing for a "sws" and will spend almost and hour going back & forth with said ws. I overstand the many reasons for this as he has also stated himself many times about why he does it, but it does get old for us that have been listeners for a long time.
I don't like when he cuts Black callers off too early but will let a bum ass pale face talk and talk or when an African isn't talking too clearly but trying to be respectful, but he thinks a dis is coming and cut's them off and makes jokes. That's not cool.

3: It helps to keep himself mentally sharp by debating very low & high lie-Q ws. (More entertainment content/lessons)

Though in his lane in totality, I think he's doing just fine. Only needs to tighten up in the twitter & yt lives.✊🏾

Both. Tariq is cool. Sometimes annoying, but who isn’t. I always tune into his broadcasts when I can, i.e. when the agents aren’t blocking his notifications.
