    Sketch comedy is where Aries Spears shines. I remember watching a stand-up special with Aries Spears, DeRay Davis, Kevin Hart, and a few others in it over a decade ago and I thought they were all funny.

    Though I noticed that certain types of humor and comedy styles don't always translate well in certain settings. A lot of comedians are funnier in movies, interviews, or TV shows than stand-up (example: Eric Andre and Indian comedian Aziz Ansari) whereas comedians like Bill Burr and Kevin Hart do better at stand-up. Only few are equally funny in both (examples: Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, Katt Williams).

    Outside of his DMX and Jay Z impersonations he has never been funny to me. MadTV was wack and I didn’t know any Black people that watched it.

    Same here. He didn’t get on my radar until he started he went on Hot97 with the Jay Z routine.

    Fr. At the risk of going on a tangent, I thought his impressions of LL Cool J and DMX were good. But the man himself is so corny. The whole incident when he was on the 5150 Show just brought everything into sharper focus.

    I remember watching Aries growing up on Mad TV. I always thought he was a funny dude for table comedy. I know there is a lot of bs he got himself into in recent years but he is still a talented comedian for what it is worth and he knows how to tell a funny story.

    I like him as a comedian. He is not one of the funniest, but I appreciate his determination.
