There is an abundance of videos on the internet that show Karen's and Brad's from HOAs and some people just pretending that they are from an HOA trespassing onto black people's property. They come on the property asking all kinds of questions, racially profiling, and threatening black people.

I had a bad experience with an HOA at the first home that I purchased. I was subjected to rules that white people in the neighborhood were not subject to. I attended an HOA meeting and bought this up and they just simply denied it.

There are many nice neighborhoods that are safe and have nice homes that are not part of HOAs.

So when I purchase my second home I was sure to only look at homes that did not have an HOA or the HOA was not mandatory.

Am I the only one who actively tries to avoid mandatory HOAs when purchasing a home?

I am looking for my second home now and avoiding HOAs for this very reason. I don't do well with rules or nosey neighbors. And nowadays HOA fees are a mortgage in themselves.

Yes like MR-D-ROB pointed out it sucks when you have an old ass karen that has nothing to do in her day so she comes by and messes with you.

    • Bike on the balcony for 1 hour, violation
    • Rake in the front lawn, violation
    • Pan African Flag hanging on house, violation

I hate them with a passion but they are abundant here in FL, especially where the upper-middle-class communities are. When I lived on the west coast of FL I didn't have one and I lived in a rural section of the county. Moved to Fort Lauderdale and OMG I hate it here. I done cussed Carl's ass out so much and asked him if he was picking on me because I'm Black he is scared to send me nasty grams anymore.

I hate HOAs and it's another way for White Supremacy to prove you never really own anything. When they feel like taking your stuff or telling you what to do with your property, they can. HOAs are the devil and a method for White men to control and subjugate homeowners.

There are federal laws against discrimination in housing. They can't outright discriminate against you based on race.

The HOA is simply a way around this. They can pester you based on nonsense rules. They can enforce rules on you and make you experience miserable. No matter what law that pass that may help black people there is a way for white supremacy to circumvent it.

That's where the HOA comes in. They have racist sitting on the HOA who will pester you about the smallest infractions and discriminate against you. They will look past small petty infractions of white homeowners. They will even trespass onto your property. Because of them being HOA, it slightly circumvents the federal housing discrimination laws and makes it harder to hold them accountable.

The thing that sucks about it is if there is a Karen in your neighborhood that doesn't want you there because you're black they can pretend to be HOA and come onto your property harassing you. The HOA doesn't even have legal authority in most cases to do anything about person trespassing onto your property. The police won't do anything about it either. Most of the time if you call the police they'll end up being on the side of the Karen and just harass you also.

This is where getting a house that has no HOA is beneficial. If you have a house that has no HOA and the Karen trespasses onto your property they have no standing to be there. The minute you tell them to leave and they refuse to do so they are trespassing.

I again don't recommend to call the police in this instance. Calling the police usually doesn't work out good for black people. What I do recommend is getting a camera installed at your door. Make sure there is a recorded record of you asking the Karen to leave your property and not to come back.

What you can then do is use that recording as a record that you did not want the Karen on your property. You could take that recording to the nearest police substation and put on record that you do not want the Karen on your property.

This avoids having police come out to your property and possibly harassing you. Recording the Karen and going to the police station to make the report it avoids the police having to be on your property. You can even tell the police that once they've contacted the Karen and told her she is no longer allowed on your property that they should contact you by phone to notify you.

You don't have to go as far as using lethal force on the Karen unless that is necessary of course where you are needing to defend your life or your families.

As a matter of fact I don't recommend using lethal force on the Karen. Again this is something that usually won't work out in the favor of a black person. Now by all means of the Karen shows up at your doorstep with a knife or a gun then do what you have to do.

When I recommend is using less than lethal force against the Karen.

Now that you’ve filed a complaint with the police station and made it clear you don’t want the Karen on your property when the Karen comes back onto the property and harasses you should pepper spray her.

She's trespassing. Most states have laws where you have no duty to retreat on your own property. You have every right to walk out into your yard and make the Karen leave.

Make that Karen well seasoned. Pepper spray her face.

It's going to be a lot more difficult for the police to try to charge you with assault if there's a record of the Karen trespassing on your property.

Now again this is one of those things where you have to know your area. If you live somewhere like Louisiana or Mississippi where there is a predominance of racism this may not work so well. Law enforcement and the DA will somehow find a way to make it your fault and not the fault of the Karen who is trespassing.

If you live in a larger metropolitan area like Houston, Atlanta, Detroit, Dallas, Los Angeles, or New York City then this is a lot more likely to work out in your favor. But if you live in a small rural area I probably wouldn't try it.

That's how they are. They sit there with nothing better to do with their life than to read through the HOA rules and then just find something to nag you about.

Their hope is that they nag you so much that you just end up saying I can't deal with this anymore and move out.

Since you are the one who's decided to move out then it doesn't necessarily go against discrimination under the federal housing rules.

Most of the HOA folks are retirees who have nothing else to do but mind other folks' business. It's really hard to find a place here without an HOA, even mobile home parks here have them. It's simply a second mortgage. I'm downsizing my life next go round and headed back home to the country where I don't have to worry about this mess. Lesson learned. I'm good on Karen and Carl minding my yard, cars, grass, fence, the color of my house, etc.

The power those jackasses wield is out of this world too. When I learned that an HOA could take your property I decided to never buy a property with an HOA.

It's pretty difficult in San Antonio too but not impossible.

What's hard is finding a nice house with no HOA in a good neighborhood. We really had a hard time. We lucked out and found one in the best school district, less than 3 miles from my place of employment and in a very convenient area!

Yeah if you get a Brad or Karen that has really decided that don't want you there they can pester you and even take you to court over minor infractions saddling you with legal costs.

Most people in this situation end up being forced out of the house because of the inconvenience of having to take time off to go to court and the legal costs!

My sister lives in San Antonio and her HOA stays on her butt. Whew we have no peace on this earth with pilgrims controlling everything. I wish Satan would rapture his children because we are tired.

Coming with a building trades I have built many houses before a accident. My teacher hired me on with his company (BTW he is a older white man), he told me why HOA's were started.
HOA's were a slick way of keeping out 2 groups of people...
    Blacks
    Mexicans

Because it was understood those two groups would be less likely to buy into sub divisions because of on going monthly HOA fees. Blacks and Mexicans would get caught up in the BS by l.a.w.s. (Lagally Allowing White Supremacy) and tickets are issued and must be paid or they can take your home.

I live in a old neighborhood that isn't a HOA but the new one they built next to us is a HOA and people dont stay in there long at all. What Nini and I plan to do is find 2 or 3 acres build on that and concrete wall us in. Phuck this Noseyhoods HOA and Non HOA.

There are nice neighborhoods without HOAs. The key most of the time is that the tax rate is outrageous.

In San Antonio they aren't necessarily trying to keep Mexicans out. There are lots of Mexican that can be just as racist as white people. They are specifically trying to keep black people out.

The HOA fees sometimes aren't even that high. They just provide a way to harass black people out of a neighborhood!

Most of the nice non HOA neighborhoods are people who didn't buy into white supremacy so there isn't much racism.

My neighbor vehemently Republican and voted for Trump both times. He is an electrician. When I first moved in he came over to help me replace a breaker switch.

Non HOA neighborhoods tend to be far less racist. They are just people who want to live and be left alone!

It's crazy because if you're not black this is something that you don't even have to deal with or isn't even a major consideration when purchasing a house.

People will never understand the extra stuff we have to think about and consider just because we're black.

    EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

We have so many little psychological attacks in us every single day. White people grow up in a world where they can accidentally bump into an opportunity that gives them everything. We grow up in a world where we can accidentally bump into a situation that can take everything. A bad HOA can operate completely legally but psychologically abuse Black residents. You call the police for harassment, they back the HOA. You take the HOA to court, they back the HOA. The entire system is in on it and they all know it’s about race, the ones that pretend that it’s not are us.

The HOA has never and will never be a friend to blacks. It's just best to find some land and build on it.

Even the large metropolitan areas there are some houses that you can purchase that are not HOA.
Generally speaking these are your older neighborhoods.

It is right near impossible to find a newly built subdivision that is non HOA. Most of the developers now are wanting HOAs for the newer neighborhoods. Again this isn't because they feel the HOA fees are going to cost black people to not be able to afford to live there.

It's because it gives them a way to harass and discriminate against black people. Lots of black people make good money and can afford to live in these neighborhoods despite them having an HOA.

The HOA is just there that if they see someone that they don't like or the doesn't fit the image they want then they're going to harass them until they move out.

I would n't ever buy a house that has an HOA. I'm a young looking guy that wears braids and is unapologetically outspoken about my culture and being black.

HOAs are going to like that. The minute they see that I don't look like the typical corporate black person and don't fit that cookie cutter image(short hair, shaved, and always wearing casual clothing) that they like to see they are going to start harassing me.

That's why I like having a home that's not HOA. A person may not like the way I present myself, but the minute they step on my property and I ask him to leave and they don't do it then I have every right to defend my property. #pepperspraythatkaren
