‘This Is How We Lost to the White Man’
The audacity of Bill Cosby’s black conservatism
amp.theatlantic.com
“Ladies and gentlemen, listen to these people. They are showing you what’s wrong … What part of Africa did this come from? We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans. They don’t know a damned thing about Africa— with names like Shaniqua, Shaligua, Mohammed, and all that crap, and all of them are in jail.”
“We are not a pitiful race of people. We are a bright race, who can move with the best. But we are in a new time, where people are behaving in abnormal ways and calling it normal … When they used to come into our neighborhoods, we put the kids in the basement, grabbed a rifle, and said, ‘By any means necessary.’
Yes sis you see it in his words. One day he is Larry Elder next day he Khalid Muhammad it’s like my nig pick a side so I know if I fux witchu or not. To pudding pop or not to pudding pop, that is the question. I hope he used his jail time to find out who he wants to be.@Bruh Man you hit the nail on the head.
Dr. Cosby is the kind of negro who, I think, liked being liked by white people. Which is on brand for his generation considering all the ish they dealt with.
By the same token, he also enjoys seeing black people not goin for that ish and wanting to stand and fight back.
it's like he's in conflict with himself sometimes, yknow what I mean?
REAL 4UCKIN TALK BRO! In the beginning, the news said he was teaching classes and helping black men get their GEDs and everything!!! Like I don't understand that guy sometimes. It's like he's in the closet about being a self professed, proud black man. It's crazy!Yes sis you see it in his words. My $0.02 is that Cosby believes that we are the cause of our own ills which is why we appear to see two divergent ideologies. On one hand he is dissing our names and on the next hand he is talking about self-sufficiency, neither are incongruent with the stance that we are our own issue. You see, we factor in White Supremacy which colors our perception, I personally do not think Bill does. So we look at him as playing into white supremacist stereotypes while he looks at it as diagnosing Black societies ills. I’m not saying he is right, but I think the myopicness to white supremacy may be a bit of soft shoe Cooning but is also why he seems to be contradictory even though he isn’t.REAL 4UCKIN TALK BRO! I see where you coming from with that.My $0.02 is that Cosby believes that we are the cause of our own ills which is why we appear to see two divergent ideologies. You can be friends with white people but you need to not be ignorant to the white people who have a clear agenda against black people.

Great points which I believe I addressed with this comment:I see where you coming from with that.
But to me, that just bolsters the point @sourgrapes made.
And though I didn't notice it before until now, I think he knows full well what he's doing because of this statement @Bruh Man provided:
And then dropping heat rock like
The 'they' he's referring to, is white people. So I feel like he genuinely is in conflict with himself. He wants to be liked by white people but doesn't want to come across like he doesn't understand the struggles of Black people in America.
but I think the myopicness to white supremacy may be a bit of soft shoe Cooning but is also why he seems to be contradictory even though he isn’t.
I see. I feel you on that most defeinitely. The foundation is Cooning but there is a sincere desire to see us win as Black people. But that sincere desire is filtered through a coon screen that turns “I want to see us rise” to “stop with names like LaPorscha”. However I do not be;ieve that this is conscious Cooning, I think he is a subconscious coon.
