I have a friend who said that Blacks couldnt get ahead in the civil rights era because they wasnt educated. Education is taught by institutions. That institution created cirricullums and "learning" material. Our people are naturally educated, although we should strive to learn daily. In some ways "outside" education is very important. But I dont think it was more important than keeping our traditions and costumes. People still throw that word around. I remember they said Lawrence Taylor was illiterate and couldnt read. They blasted this on the media when he was in the NFL. Regardless of his on field skills. But he was able to do this?

Though this Lawrence Taylor business move isn't a good example to use to make this point, I do get where you're coming from and I agree totally. Traditional education isn't really the end all be all today that it used to be in the past. People have literally started YouTube channels with no prior marketing education or experience or any kind of filming education or experience and have become overnight sensations. People who've never gone to broadcasting school or ever worked in radio have started podcasts and now have popular and prominent followings. Folks who have ZERO education or background in real estate are becoming financially free getting into real estate investing using YouTube videos as their educational instruction. So you're absolutely right, in today's technological society, it is DEFINITELY not necessary for the traditional 4yr college degree to become a success anymore.

I would argue that Black folks not getting ahead in the civil rights era due to lack of education isn't really the reason why we didn't get further. I think Black people fought so long and so hard, that when the Civil Rights Act came about, they fell for the okie doke thinking legislation was going to save them. That's not an education thing, that's more naivete. Not realizing, that just because you're making segregation and racism in effect, illegal, isn't going to change white people's minds and hearts. Additionally, I think Malcolm X said something like "We were fighting for a seat on the bus when we should have bought the depot." That too hurt Black America. We settled. We shouldn't have rested on our laurels. We should have moved on to the next item in the agenda but, it's like we took what we were given and let ourselves go.

Yeah but you're indicating he was a success without education because of a business move like this. I'm saying this resulted in a colossal financial disaster for him because of his lack of education. Which kinda undermines your argument. After this IPO skyrocketed the company went belly up not too long after. The firm that was in charge of it was manipulating the stock price. LT never sold his stock and he lost hundreds of thousand of dollars. Two traders ended up being charged with fraud because when that stock price skyrocketed the company was actually losing over $900,000 dollars. So my point is, he could have used some education in this situation, if for no other reason to sell his stock or to have enough sense not to invest with those people. But I still agree that traditional education is not needed in this day and age.

I think he eventually started a company with Eric Dickerson and I think it's still in operation. But the example you gave with the IPO, it kinda doesn't help make your point is all I was trying to say without diminishing the fact that you are right. Education is fluid and doesn't have to be traditional in class college type stuff.

    Absolutely no ,disrespect.

No computers in 1995? Windows 95? UNIX was invented in 1969. The internet was foundationally founded in 1954 with DARPA's ARPNET.

    Are you 12?
No disrespect, again. I'm blown away by the casual fact that you just said that and kept on moving.

    Anyway, carry on...

He was portrayed by the media as a black man who was illiterate and even dumb. I am not condoning drug use, but i will say that all drugs are the same some just have a doctors name associated with it. Thanks to the media monster we are lead to believe what ever they push. Education can be looked at as indoctrination. Knowledge is Power.

Reading an article about the Black Seminoles. I noticed how in the article the writer always remind us that the people discussed are illiterate and uneducated.
