I think it's good to have high standards, but you have to be honest with yourself. If you feel like you wouldn't date yourself, then maybe you should reevaluate what kind of expectations you have for others. Your standards are too high when you're asking for something you are not able to give to someone else, or to yourself. What are your thoughts?

You make a great point but it is only valid when people have the capability of introspective thought. I have met many a lady who had not a penny to their name but all the expectations in the world for me. This is when high standards like you have stated becomes a problem because people begin to create lines in the sand where they say “you aren’t a good man if you don’t have x” but the person saying it doesn’t have x and doesn’t know what it takes to get x which makes them not qualified to draw that line in the first place.

Standards are great. “High” is subjective because having a career is a high standard to some of these bums out here. But don’t set standards for others that you yourself cannot meet.

Why does it even matter what I'm capable of? If you want what I got then you meet the standard or you don't. If you don't, don't waste your time stepping up just to get your male ego hurt.

Yeah but men and women want different things. If you let men tell it being sweet, nice, somewhat attractive and loyal is their only real requirements

I think it is important to value yourself and never feel like you are settling for less than you feel you deserve. You want to be selective but not to a point where no one is good enough for you, if that makes sense. Like for me, I am looking to find someone who wants commitment, children, marriage, etc. I am done dating around. So I am being even more selective these days than I was when I was younger and I think that is a good thing.
