A strategic move
The roles are gonna pour in now
Watch this:
View: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FCSh48OlvMo It's like a weird, art imitating life and life imitating art kind of thing.
Jerrod Carmichael is one of the main characters in the music video and he basically complains about Hollyweird, the racial politics, and the lack of viable opportunities for Black people. The video also shows how the Black people have to whitewash their own Blackness and play the safe, friendly Negroes for more acceptance. His show "The Carmichael Show", which was decent, was cancelled after a few seasons and was poorly funded. Meanwhile, other white shows got better funding and chances to shine. He felt some kind of way about it and likely took it personal.
Even though he was getting some work (particularly behind the scenes), I figure that maybe he felt like that, being a "safe" Negro, and being an intellectual Black comedian just weren't enough to expand his career or get enough people to really care about him or his work. So he did what Frank Ocean, Lil Nas X, and Tyler The Creator did, "come out as gay / bi" for better prospects (and in some cases, image rehabilitation). More opportunities, new image, more interest, more interviews, more roles and gigs, better chances of increasing your profile.
Sadly, I think that while
a lot of these Black people know what's up with Hollyweird, a lot of them continue to play along and are still willing to sell their souls, whore themselves out, and at least be ready to get buckbroken or gay for pay (or gay for hire) so that can get some play in the entertainment industry.
In one of TBA's recent broadcasts about the death of the Black News Channel (BNC), he talks about how racist Pakistani Shadid Khan (investor of BNC) and his despicable son mainly only put Black people on if they are willing to degrade themselves, sell out Black people as a whole, or willing to be buckbroken and gay for pay (at least).
To see just how these whites and others require Black people to be buckbroken or LGBTQIA to maintain employment, I want you to especially go to 1:12:40 of the video below if you haven't seen it already.
