I realize this after a playing a few modern games, i know this is a subjective depending on who you asked but when a person tell me that a game is 70 hours to complete I won't even touch it especially if it is single player only i won't even start it. Certain games have you do the same or similar side quest as a filler to the story, As I became older i stopped playing a lot of single player games and focused more on multiplayer games like fighters and shooters or even co op games

Am I the only one that thinks Modern games are too long

It depends. If your play style is to complete everything then yeah, a lot of them will be too damn long. I don't need to complete everything or unlock everything. My main focus is almost always the story. For most games that will not take nearly as long to complete. The stories themselves (if you focus on nothing but the main missions) are often under 10 hours. Have you ever played the Fable games? I was able to sit down and beat the entire game (Fable III) in under 7 hours. That game came out in 2010 though so it is a bit dated at this point.

Am I the only one that thinks Modern games are too long

I don’t think being long is an issue if it’s long because the narrative is playing out throughout. I have an issue when a game is long because the developer pads the game with filler which makes it artificially long as you put.

For instance, games that follow the Ubisoft formula are not really long games, they are a small game play loop that is repeated over and over again.

The Loop

Do missions until no more are on map, search the open world for tower that unlocks more of the map, the map reveal exposes more missions and also resource minigames you can play to unlock capabilities.

This will be the entire game and it’ll take place in maybe a 20 minute span but be repeated 20 times. To try to make each instance of this loop unique, the developer will place cutscenes inbetween to attempt to give motive to the repetition. Just Cause is the perfect example of this formulaic design.

The games end up hollow, stale and tiring once you pierce through the story and graphics to reveal an elementary or derivative game experience. But people like them and they sell so we are stuck with them.

This is why I didn’t like Horizon Zero Dawn because the second I got over the scenery and plot I saw that it was a game I played a million times on different consoles at different time points.

I was interested in the plot however so I watched a YouTube video of the story because there was no way I was gonna go through that loop over an over again.

well alot of game are developed to big sellers so there for they all have to play the same in order to attract the largest amount of people

well look at call of duty and madden two franchises that got destroyed by greed
Call of Duty haven't have a year off since 2007 and EA sign and exclusive deal with the NFL so EA are the only one that can make professional realism football game

That shit be fun as fuck there is nothing more fun then conquering the camps in far cry give me that loop all day.

Far Cry is another on-the-list game. I SOOOOOO need to take the time out rent it and play. Conquering camps feels like how I felt playing Just Cause 2 on PS3 just go around and destroy shit. Toss remote explosives to government property, then start walking away slowly with the camera directed behind me and then detonate the explosives as everything blows up like in those slow-mo scenes in the action movies.

I agree. Long play in the construct of a brilliant narrative (like RDR2 or Ghosts of Tsushima) is not only worth it but enhances the experience that much more IMO. Damn Jay, we agree again.....that's twice now....I'm officially starting to get concerned.

Like Sapphire said it's a play style thing. I played over 80hours of FFXV and it was just side missions. I had already beaten the game. Same thing with a game like Fallout or Skyrim. I'm a trophy ~~whore~~ completionist. I like earning Platinum trophies makes me feel superior somehow.

Yes Far Cry is some great gaming I think Far Cry 3 was awesome, Vaas was such an awesome villain. Pagan Min was decent but Vaas was one of a kind. That game was so cinematic and innovative I couldn't get enough. Had a nigga play the game and ducking in real life trying not to get caught. That game in VR would trip my brain out.

We do not agree based on the two POS games you included. RDR2 is boring and Globs of Sushi are two games that exemplify everything I said in the post you quoted. Globs of Sushi is fun for awhile because the combat system is freaking awesome and is like Dark Souls for niggas that think Dark Souls is too hard. But that dope ass combat and gorgeous scenery are apart of a cookie cutter Ubisoft formula game and after like 60 hours I just couldn't fool myself anymore. I was playing Assassin's Creed Japan and there was no denying it. Half way through it I was waiting for the Animus to show its face. I went on Youtube to see the ending because I couldn't stomach anymore of the cookie cutter gameplay.

Yup. If you don't have time to invest in modern games to the full extent, just focus on the main story. Save the other stuff for after if you have time for it. I get that though. Collecting stuff makes it feel more worth it. I was like this back in the day. I just don't care too much anymore. I think the only game I ever 100%'d was Assasin's Creed II.

Dying Light 2 is 500 hours of gameplay which is by far the longest that I have played. I'm not even worrying about rushing the game. If it takes me forever to complete it, I won't mind.
