This is cool, but I wonder why the Nigerian government couldn't do this on their own.
What’s unfortunate is that the 3 major tribes would rather fight themselves into poverty than to unite and prosper. I can understand the Igbo’s not wanting to unite but they need some reparative policies to heal the nation.Nigeria really should be 3 different countries, divided by the 3 largest tribes. Present day Nigeria was created by the British. These tribes (Hausa-Fula, Yoruba, Igbo) have never gotten along and even sold the other tribe into slavery.
There was a war called the Biafra war that was very bloody, civil war for one of the tribes to separate to form a new state but it got quelled. Nigeria or rather each tribe will never reach its full potential as one country. Too much bad history. The stereotypes each has about the other is ingrained. They rarely intermarry. Well, in Lagos they will as its a mega city but typically you stick with your own.
So, why not just split up then since they don't get along? Problem is most of the oil is in the area of one of the tribes in the south. The Moslems, Hausa and Fulani are in the north so if the split the Yoruba and and some Igbo and surrounding tribes will get that oil.
The only way a split would work is some deal to share the oil revenues. Anyway, Nigeria as a whole now has the potential to be a G8 nation in terms of GDP but it will never happen. Too much corruption and tribalism. Sad, very sad.
They, like most other sub Saharan African countries have traded European colonialism for Chinese economic slavery. And even the oil they have isn't even utilized well. Nigeria has so much oil its an OPEC country. They still have gas shortages for their cars. Why? Their 3 oil refineries are inefficient, badly run. Akio Dangote, the richest black person in the world, Nigerian (Hausa tribe) is building a refinery that should open up this year. He's all business. He runs stuff like its supposed to be run.
