When it comes to respecting someone else's privacy, and they respecting yours - What do you think crosses the line?

We live in the day and age of social media, dating apps, texting, and so on. It is very easy to get caught up in things you never intended or give your partner the wrong idea when you just want some privacy. The way you go about this though can cause a whole mess of issues in a relationship if you are not open about things.

How are you defining privacy?

Keeping your phone locked, not sharing passwords, keeping bank accounts separate, not sharing accounts in general, things like that. Think anything to do with phones and computers.

Ok. So I’ve always had separate accounts as well as joint account. I think my partner should have their own account with money they can do whatever with without me having to okay it. Also separate accounts have helped when the IRS comes knocking and wants to seize money for taxes. Yeah been there done that in another lifetime…

my devices are locked however a list of all my passwords and codes to unlock my devices are printed out in the event of an emergency my kids or significant other can access all that…

I give plenty of privacy. I don’t have a problem not having access to my partner‘s stuff…

This is a very healthy way to live as it recognizes that you are a unit but that you are also separate individuals. I prefer a joint account like you and we leverage it for bills and savings. We have our separate accounts to give each a lane to make purchases with privacy. If I want to let a family member borrows $50 I don’t have to worry about asking my lady if that is something she is comfortable with. It’s a clean and easy way to live.

I don't mind joint accounts myself or my partner knowing the lock to my computer or phone. I have nothing to hide but I trust he won't go snooping for any reason. If this becomes an issue, then the locks go back on and we have things to work through. Everything has to happen within reason though.
