The government ain't sh*t. Conservatives have said (and I agree to some extent but for different reasons) that white liberals gave Blacks a trick bag with Section 8.

The government knew by having a provision no male over 18, it would break up families. Anyway, after over 50 years of structural family damage to Black families instead of rectifying it they just kick them out.

The right thing to do would be back in the day, make the projects co-ops like NYC does with apartment buildings. Make the residents the owners and let them have whomever in there and give them instant equity in a home.

Interestingly enough a white Republican, Jack Kemp, proposed that when he was head of HUD under the elder Bush in 1989. He said the federal government spends billions on public housing and they are still bad. Why not save money and just give the housing to the residents? Made sense and a pilot program in St. Louis I think worked great. But Republicans didn't support it for obvious reasons and Democrats hated seeing any Republican get credit for anything that helps the core of their base so they didn't do anything to help him.

Kicking out families who were in there for 2 or 3 generations at times, with no means to survive in society is cruel and salt on the wounds. The CBC, NAACP and other black groups should have made our vote a bartering chip for this and other things that damaged our community. Each family should have a cash payout in the tens of thousands, free tuition paid for any job training, tech school or junior college at a bare minimum.

I think the parties switched sometime in the 50s or 60s. If you look back and follow everything Democrats have done since, it has hurt the black family and the black community. Democrats are the party of the rich and wealthy. This is why people like Jeff Bezos vote blue. People never wanna question that though. Both parties suck and neither have fairly represented black people in America every but of the two? I'd say Democrats are far worse at this point.

Gentrification plain and simple but People have a responsibility to at least try to better their situation Section 8 shouldn't be a lifetime or generational staple. There are plenty of stories of people working their way out of the system and becoming successful home owners. Unfortunately being in the system is being at the mercy of the government. Hopefully they find a solution for their situation.
