I think the differences is that being, "Exclusive" is more so an advanced version of dating where two individuals are not seeing other people and continuing moving forward towards a full relationship. When in a, "Relationship" it's being exclusive but now as Sankara mentioned with added responsibilities, now with a more bigger focus and even a goal to get married if the conditions are right.
