Willie Stokes, freed from a life sentence after 37 years, was ready to hug his mom and get a corned beef hoagie Tuesday when he walked out of a state prison.

Stokes, 61, of Philadelphia, greeted other family members when freed Tuesday, because his mother was too nervous to come.

"Today is a tremendous day. We're all very thankful," said his lawyer, Michael Diamondstein. "However, it's also a sad day, because it reminds us of how lawless, unfair and unjust Philadelphia law enforcement was for so long."

Willie Stokes Freed From Life Sentence After 37 Years, Ready to Hug His Mom

Stokes was sentenced in a trial influenced by detectives who allegedly offered a witness sex and drugs in 1983 in exchange for false testimony.

So when will his justice come? This happens too damn often. They throw black men in prison who legit did nothing and then manipulate them to confess things they never did or they plant fake evidence on them. I am happy for him but at the same time knowing this man was robbed of 37 of his life, it makes me sick.

I'm happy that Mr. Stokes is free. I pray that he can put his life back together, and that he gets the therapy that he will probably need.
I'm sure that he will get paid, but no amount of (taxpayer funded) money will ever return the years that were stolen from our brother.

Philly corruption goes all the way to the state level. From the crooked cops, to the alleged pedos running the entire state. I think that Penn State controversy went all the way to the top. JMO

I heard so many things come from Philly over the last 10 years, it is insane. Like imagine all the stuff we don't know about. It is like they have an agenda that runs thick and deep in the heart of the state that is fully against black people, God, and absolutely supporting pedophiles.

For me it was cheesesteak but then MOVE and it made it clear just how much we are hated. No rules, no laws, nothing applies to us. We are at best second class citizens, we’re basically citizens by default and not because we are viewed as a wanted people in this nation.

Now, Mr. Stokes knows what his next step will be. Sue the PD's insurance company, sue the racist detectives, sue the witness that lied, sue the judge too. I would sue for no less than $150,000,000 TAX free. He can still have children and such and maybe he got a degree or some cert while in the hoosegow.

Philly is very corrupt. Philly in the East, Pitt in the West, and Alabama in the middle.
