Non-Black Companies Are Moving On Africa

Netflix said on Monday it is launching a free mobile plan in Kenya as the global streaming giant looks to tap the East African nation that is home to over 20 million internet users.

The free plan, which will be rolled out to all users in Kenya in the coming weeks, won’t require them to provide any payment information during the sign-up, the company said. The new plan is available to any user aged 18 or above with an Android phone, the company said. It will also not include ads.

Netflix, available in over 190 countries, has experimented with a range of plans in recent years to lure customers in developing markets. For instance, it began testing a $3 mobile-only plan in India in 2018 — before expanding it to users in several other countries.

This is also not the first time Netflix is offering its service for free — or at little to no price. The company has previously supported free trials in many markets, offered a tiny portion of its original movies and shows to non-subscribers and has run at least one campaign in India when the service was available at no charge over the course of a weekend.

But its latest offering in Kenya is still remarkable. The company told Reuters that it is making about one quarter of its movies and television shows catalog available to users in the free plan in the East African nation.

“If you’ve never watched Netflix before — and many people in Kenya haven’t — this is a great way to experience our service,” Cathy Conk, director of Product Innovation at Netflix, wrote in a blog post.

“And if you like what you see, it’s easy to upgrade to one of our paid plans so you can enjoy our full catalog on your TV or laptop as well.”

10,000 foot view of programming

Programming is about controlling a machine. It's not a secret art or magic.

To control a machine, you need to understand how that machine takes instructions and how it returns the answer to you.

So, naturally, we are going to need to focus on a language. There are many languages out there that a person could use to "speak" to a machine. I don't believe that there is a single "best" language to use. So, whatever language you choose, it should do the trick. I'll address languages when we finish preliminary points on programming.

Algorithms

College courses, in my opinion, do not spend enough time on teaching algorithms. An algorithm is basically the "flow" of your program. So, the first step in a proper algorithm is to establish what your program wants to do. After you decide the solution your program will give the user, you should be breaking down the "problem" into manageable pieces. It's good practice to break down your "problem" as small as you logically can.

I will use a cake as an example to explain:

Gather: eggs, flour, milk, sugar, shortening, spice, extracts, mixing bowl, spoon, oil, baking pan, stove, electricity and a timer.

Think of the things that you just gathered as "objects". Objects are the actual data that you will use in your program. You will hear that term quite often.

Trust me this is going somewhere.

Break down your objects further:
Gather: Chicken eggs, wheat flour, cow's milk, cane sugar, canola oil, etc.

As you can see, in programming, you need to be precise as possible.

Continuing, you have all the ingredients to make a cake but you need to do something with the ingredients. In programming, actions are called functions or subroutines. You can use those phrases interchangeably. So your actions (functions) should tell the computer what to do and in what order:
1: mix in a bowl
2: crack eggs throw away shell
3: add spice
...

It's up to you to create the flow of your program so others using your program can be successful.

Review:
Algorithms are the flow of your program. You need to create one before you even write a single line of code. Objects are the data that you will use in your program. Functions are the actions that the computer must perform in order to solve a problem. Please practice algorithms because they are very useful for design and upgrading your code to extend it if you should want to in the future.

Def Jam Rapstar

Did you guys ever play this game when it came out? It was essentially a Sing It game but with popular Def Jam rap songs. It sucks that they never attempted to make a sequel to this game, because I had so much fun playing it. I know it came out for the 360, and came with a microphone. But, I think the PS3 and maybe even PC got a copy of the game.

I hope they consider rebooting it or maybe making a completely new game.

Dating older women (cougars)

Has anyone here dated older women? I'm in my mid 20s right now and I have been into older women as of late. I think it's their maturity, because let's face it a lot of young women out there are overly immature and can't grasp relationships. I mean, that's how I feel from my past relationships with women my age. Anyway, I've considered dating older women as of late, because I feel like I will never find a woman my age who's not always wanting to party at the club or bars, or go to these big ass concerts. Which is fine, but take a damn break right?

Anyway, I'm on a few dating sites trying to meet some older women. Have you guys and gals tried to meet older women/men on any dating apps or out in public somewhere? I wouldn't say I've sworn off women my age though, just the ones who are crazy about partying often. I can't do the partying anymore. I used to drink way too much, and I can't go through that again honestly.

Anyone here use Linux OS instead of Windows?

I like messing with tech and have installed distributions of Linux on a couple old laptops of mine. The first one is Ubuntu, which is a free OS you can download and install on most PCs today. And you can also install on some older PCs to get some new life out of them.

Has anyone here tried installing a Linux OS? If so, which one did you mess around with?

Do you keep in touch with any childhood friends?

Are you still friends with anyone from your childhood? I'm not friends with any of them which I guess is kind of sad lol Most of them I just grew a part from but I did have a pretty big falling out with my best friend in high school. I've wondered how a few of them are doing but I think it's best to leave the past in the past for the most part.

What are some signs it is a fetish?

I am an open person. I have dated different types of men be it race, background, height, or weight but it is clear that there are some real weird people out there who look to fetishize these things. I have met men who will only date Asian women (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) and they were white or black. I have met women who will only date black men and they were white. I even met an Asian man who only found black women beautiful (but to his own standard of beauty).

We all have our preferences but when does a preference cross the line and become a fetish? What are some signs to look out for? I want to hear from both ladies and gents on this one.

GPU prices are still off the charts!

I can't believe it. The one I got a few years back for my new computer was $150 and it is now selling for over $500 on Amazon! I checked other places and if they happen to have it in stock, the prices are all around the same. It is not worth that much. This has to be down to labor shortages right? I know there was a chip shortage back in 2020 before things really started getting nuts but it seems like it is only 1000x worse. I think crypto farming made prices hike substantially too.

If a Man Pays All the Bills, What Do You Feel a Woman’s Role is in the Relationship?

We’re in an age where women have found a new level of autonomy which has caused us to buck many traditional gender roles e.g. subordinance, domestic duties, child rearing, etc.

So what do you think a woman’s role is in the modern world where women have grown accustom to the autonomy but want to maintain the role of male as the main provider?

Do you return to the traditional gender roles or is it a hybrid?

Ladies, if the man is willing and able to pay all the bills and provide you a comfortable life would you be willing to forgo work out of the house to tend domestic duties, child rearing, etc? @sourgrapes @lexodyssey @Caprice @Ebonyjo @sunshinenmay25 @Cassandra113364 @Red Velvet @Tati 304

Pfizer recalls all lots of anti-smoking drug Chantix over carcinogen presence

Screen Shot 2021-09-21 at 8.10.31 AM.png

Pfizer is voluntarily recalling all lots of its anti-smoking drug Chantix due to high levels of cancer-causing agents called nitrosamines in the pills.

The recall is for all lots of 0.5 mg and 1 mg varenicline tablets, the Food and Drug Administration said Thursday. Long-term ingestion of the drug can lead to a "potential increased cancer risk in humans, but there is no immediate risk to patients taking this medication."

For this reason, the FDA said on Friday that patients taking the recalled drug "should continue taking their current medicine until their pharmacist provides a replacement or their doctor prescribes a different treatment."

"The health benefits of stopping smoking outweigh the cancer risk from the nitrosamine impurity in varenicline," the FDA added.

Pfizer initially paused distribution of the drug in June, and has already recalled a number of lots of the medicine so far. At the time, the company said the pause in distribution was conducted out of an abundance of caution, pending further testing. Pfizer then expanded the recall to additional lots of the anti-smoking drug in August.

Chantix was approved by the FDA in May 2006 as a prescription medication to help adults aged 18 and over quit smoking and is typically used for 12 to 24 weeks.

This is the company that people are shaming us to get the vaccine for...think about that. What if a couple years down the line we find out that some crap like this happens with the vaccine?

I have a sex addiction

I spend around $$700-$800 a month on sex

porn does nothing for me, I need/get the real thing.

it's messed up my marriage, me and the wifey going through therapy at the moment, it's working, tho she being over dramatic with the shit.

only thing is, I don't think i WANT to stop tho.

i can't describe it ya'll.

It's something about setting it up, meeting with a trick, and taking care of businesses.

I feel like a King. Smashing a broad then coming home to the wifey, and her being none the wiser.

But at some point, something gotta give, you know? Like I don't think I want to stop, but this can't go on forever

Do you like to travel?

Back before Covid I always loved traveling. Since last year, I've been able to travel around the state and I went to see family a few months ago but I'm ready to go out and see some new places. I've already cancelled several big trips so hopefully I can reschedule for next year! Do you like to travel? If so, where have you been?
