Do you have home movies of yourself from when you were growing up?

Sadly, the ones my parents had of us got ruined. My mom only discovered it recently and was heartbroken over it. The basement had taken on some water a few years back and the box of tapes was on the floor for some reason. She didn't realize it until recently that the tapes had gotten damaged. I want to make sure when I have kids, all the pictures and videos are kept safe. It sucks I can't show my kids the videos though. It didn't hit me at first but it really does suck.

Actually I do. Sadly encountered a similar situation. I only have one VHS tape with my grandma and grandpa that I was really protective of, but when I played the tape recently, it was somehow damaged. The beginning of the video, the sound was gone and the video quality was cutting in and out. I checked the film and it all looked good, so idk what could be the issue. Maybe there's dust collected under the film or something, idk.

But yeah, it's literally the only tape I have of my family, so it sucks that it's kinda broken. I was thinking of getting it restored somehow, but I don't know if that's even possible or if it would damage it further.

Cool thing though, my aunt recently told us she had videos in the basement that she had to go through. I told her I'd try to digitize some of the ones she had if they still work. At least this way, I will have some footage back. :)
