Not while they were growing up. Not even now, as far as I know. They were very carefully raised.

We recognized the degrading nature of much, if not most of rap, early on. The last rap album I owned was "Straight Outta Compton" when it first came out. After that we had children, so I wanted nothing like that in my house.

We usually played classical music at breakfast and jazz at dinner.
My wife plays jazz while working around the house.

I remember my mother when I was in elementary school putting on Manitovi, Nat King Cole, or I think it was Sarah Vaughn while she cleaned the house.

I got my hands on that same NWA tape. A white boy told me to listen to it. I remember not liking it because there wasn't a melody. I bought Shyne's first album and that was it for me.

My folks played everything from Gospel, EWF to The Chi-lites.
