I know it's because of the political climate today. But everything seems to be tamed down a lot to appease as many people and not offend anyone. Movies & tv play it safe for the most part. I don't mind offensive content as long as it's done in a comedic manner that works or tells a story that deals with it, overcomes it and more. That can be done, but it feels like it's becoming less and less of it these days. Almost like they think everyone are babies or something and that we can't handle anything offensive. Do you guys agree?

I understand some things will trigger people, but the damn world is a trigger in itself. The news is a trigger, the books you read are a trigger. We all live through horrible shit in our lives some more worse than others, and I think seeing it in media, sometimes helps us through it.

What do you think? Have comedies for the most part, become more tame with the comedy they do?

Yes because everyone IS a baby.

We have gotten to a point where, at least here in America, it's as if parents have raised wimps. We are a country full of wimps.
Folks have raised their kids in this "Honey you're special and don't let anyone tell you you aren't" Instead of "Honey, WE know you're special but the rest of the world doesn't and you gotta go out there and show them what you can do!" So what happens is you get a bunch of inadvertently, and sometimes deliberately, entitled brats who thinks someone owes them something and then when you tell them about themselves, they get up in their feelings and don't know how to handle it. When you grow up clowning people, it may be cruel sometimes, but it teaches you to remember to stay humble but it also teaches you that someone is always going to have something to say no matter what so don't let it get to you. But we're not there anymore. So, everything is hokey and watered down now.

Yes. I’m tired of this safe space ish. I like my comedy to be racially insensitive and misogynistic!
I'm torn between these two comments here.
  • On one hand, things are getting to the point that everyone can be outraged for anything and everything even no matter how mundane.
  • But on the other hand when we didn't have PC White people was running amok with their racism.
We need a balance where we don't kow-tow to the bitch ass society while also keeping people in check. Like the LGBT shit is straight up bullying and that's a problem. Ok nigga you can wear a wig all you want but no, you're not a woman to me.

I don't think anyone is saying that. I think that's being a bit extreme. But what I am saying is if someone comes and talks about how black folks are always late to events or always have to check who made the (fill-in-the-blank-food dish), because "I don't eat everybody's (fill-in-the-blank-food dish)" or askin "who all there" at a impromptu invite for a party that's not something to get up in one's feeling about. Or if a guy jokes about how long it takes for a woman to get ready, or how some women are hungry and "Don't care where we eat" but no suggestion is ever good enough for someone who's quote unquote starving. Those aren't things to get up in one's feelings about.

Expertly said. White people are the ones that ruined the ability to say whatever you want because when they had the right they didnt want to respect others.

Everyone is so thin-skinned these days. I can't get over it. Like I feel like we have grown adults walking around with the mindsets of 10-year-old children. I seldom hear about this nonsense from black people though. It is always the LGBTs or the white liberal groups who cry about everything.

I am all for respecting each other but art is art. Comedy is art. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

Where’s the line though? When it offends you do we call you soft too?

I would not stop insensitive comedy, then again the artist must lives with the backlash. I'm sure anti black racist comedy would wind me up. I'll be on the offensive. Attacking with abandon.

Context is important here. There’s a difference between a Black man making White jokes and the opposite. It’s like a German can make jokes about anyone but Jews and it may not be fair but Hitler ruined it for all Germans. People have to deal with it. I think as long as your words aren’t creating an environment that leads to people being harmed you should be allowed to speak. But once again there’s nuance…a White dude saying anti-Black stuff has real consequence.

There are a couple running jokes between me and a few of my friends we always end up saying "The wheats ruin everything" and "GAWD they want to be oppressed so bad"
It's like clock-work with them sometimes.

For real, like are they so desperate to be persecuted or something? Most of them come from well-off parents too and didn't have to pay a dime to get higher education. Yet they want to talk about how oppressed they are. They oppress themselves and want everyone else to fix their issues. No one asked for them to speak for any of us either.

I am sick of the LGBT narrative as well. Like the US is the freest place you can be if you are gay, les, bi, trans, whatever and they still want to act like people are out in the streets burning them alive. Like please, if you are in that group you are a protected class at this point.

I have no hate in my heart against any of these people but they all need to grow up and fix their busted narratives.
