2021-The white opioid addicts receive state sanctioned drug injection sites, medical facilities v 1990s: the crack/cocaine era where black people receive mandatory minimums, 3 strikes, life sentences and prison doors

—————-
Decriminalization v Criminalization

NYC IS THE FIRST CITY IN THE U.S. TO OPEN SUPERVISED DRUG INJECTION SITE, IN HOPES OF PREVENTING OVERDOES

People dying from drug overdoses are growing at an alarming rate, especially in New York City.
There’s been a dramatic increase since the pandemic in 2020. As reported on NBC last year, over 2,000 individuals died from an overdose. It hasn’t been that high since 2000.To help combat the issue, New York is the first state to launch supervised drug injection sites in NYC.
The city launched a “harm reduction” strategy designed to “reduce an unprecedented surge of overdose deaths,” NPR reports. Mayor Bill de Blasio backs the program and made the announcement today (November 30). He said,
“Overdose Prevention Centers are a safe and effective way to address the opioid crisis. I’m proud to show cities in this country that after decades of failure, a smarter approach is possible.”
The overdose prevention center (OPC) services are safe places where people who use drugs can get clean needles and medical care. They also offer addiction treatment, and individuals can get connected to social services. The OPCs will serve as an extension of existing services.

The Wire, one of HBO’s early ventures into big-budget television after the success of Oz and The Sopranos, is widely considered one of the greatest television series of all time. The show was a pioneer in its accurate portrayal of both police and life in urban America.

Often characterized as a “cop drama,” The Wire was much more than that. It told stories of both sides of the war on drugs with an unprecedented level of complexity and objectivity. During its season focused on political corruption, the show predicted the current experiment with legalized crime.

In season 3, episode 4, the fictionalized Baltimore Police Department creates an autonomous zone, nicknamed “Hamsterdam,” not dissimilar to Seattle’s recent experiment. In the show, sections of Baltimore are turned into open-air drug markets where police never step foot, and crime exists unimpeded.

Exactly. Low income black people who are involved in drugs- their benefits are removed, no subsidized housing, renovation of financial assistance and the list goes on. Whites - they basically will be issued a check for being deemed as “mentally ill”, at funded medical rehab, job placement assistance and on top of that - Purdue Pharma has set aside billions of dollars for opioid victims as part of their Non Disclosure, reduced liability funding program. Which in essence is - the government won’t sue the Sackler family who pushed opioids as long as they keep compensating the victims. In the meantime and between time - the average black first time offender is still behind bars off a archaic disproportionate 80s Drug law.

@Jay This reminds me of the time that I was offered a job to work in the legal division of Purdue Pharma. The firm where I worked was going to outsource me to Purdue Pharma to work onsite but I would still be employed at the firm. At the time I was living closer to Delaware than I was in New York. Purdue Pharma was like 5 mins from my house so it would have been convenient. Bump in salary - I told them HELLL NO, F nahhh I’m not working for those demon high priced corporate corner boys who pushed pills (not those exact words that I used but they got the picture) . 2 weeks later, they fired my ass.
    mjlol
4 years later - those bastards don’t have a business and they’re all out of jobs.

White people and their non-stop handouts.

They are the real welfare queens.

See this is the part that is challenging about being Black in corporate America. You're not supposed to have a voice or morals, when they say "jump" you're supposed to say "how high" and that's it. You basically told them that you march to the beat of your own drum and they were no longer able to tolerate you.

This nation’s answer to anything regarding Black people is something punitive. Restoration is never an option, any act of good faith is merely a setup for another scheme. Hence why it is imperative that we shift our mindstate to understanding that we are all got. We are militarily encircled and some people would rather drown themselves in entertainment or not see the enemy around us.

These slaps in the face are enraging and when pointing them out our hood liberal friends say things like “well we’ve learned from the past” and I pause. They don’t even see us as human, rather, test subjects.

Because I wouldn’t relocate down to Princeton, New Jersey to work within the commuting “distance” of Purdue Pharma as a part of the job requirement. Which I didn’t know working in BigPharma were my job duties from the beginning. Even though the hiring recruiter knew I was coming from New York and wasn’t told that living in/relocating to Princeton would need a be a part of the hiring package. Really don’t think the HR recruiter knew what the hell she was doing.

Unofficial reason - Racism with the Bait and Switch. Basically, the interviewing Partner was out of town on business, didn’t have time to personally interview me, so they let a lower level HR director interview and hire me for the job. She offered me the job right on the spot as her solo decision. Few weeks into my onboarding orientation process- the managing partner returns, she was so out of the loop - she didn’t even know who I was. Racist bytch thought I was a secretary.
    thinkingbrothanialongupset

I knew something was up when everyone kept asking me “how I got that position and what my qualifications were”- Like who is that black girl and how did she get to get to sit at the table with us?? That continued for days- I was real uncomfortable, I was also coming from a city government legal position where it was very diverse, had black and Latino coworkers, and it was my first real step into private corporate . The regret was immediate but I was being paid twice my salary compared to the city.

Long story long - they kept floating me over to different depts at the firm. Then in the most back asswards moves ever - I was living in New York but they would send me to the Jersey office in the morning, then tell me to go to the New York office in the afternoon so that’s literally damn near 4 hours of my day commuting at a moments notice. After another few weeks of that, I requested to be assigned to the New York office - it made logistical sense. That’s when the talk about outsourcing me to Purdue Pharma in Princeton to their legal department came about. I saw the writing on the wall to plan for my exit . Those racist Italians and Jews did not want me in that position trying to force my hand. As they say, the Lord works in mysterious ways:. Purdue Pharma went bankrupt, which was like 70% of the billables for the practice group, and they completely disbanded, fired staff and had lawyer layoffs after that bc there was no work coming in from that client. But never again will I not trust my own instinct or be enticed by monetary gain/ big paycheck over the work environment and my own values. (And despite what hiring recruiters say about discrimination - if you have a “white or white Latino sounding name” (racist asf) with credentials white people will assume you are white based off resume not face value and hire you, but in the long term- that’s NOT the brand of company that you would want to work for in the first place. Make sure you know who you will work DIRECTLY for, it is important that you vet the company as much as they vet you and know your precise description/role. Lesson learned. Early.

Exactly - it’s like a literal cloud was hanging over me the whole time. One of the first most depressing frustrating work experiences. The white female lawyers didn’t do half the work I did- all they did was walk around in short skirts and make wedding plans.

Ohhhh and I left out- like a month after I started, one of the wives of the attorney that I was receiving work from- she passed away unexpectedly. Idk but that ish was like a BAD OMEN!! He claims that he got home from work and his little son was playing with his dead mother’s/the wife’s hair trying to wake her up, saw her lying on the ground. Like he came home set his Briefcase down saw his wife’s body sprawled out on the floor, motionless. A month into the job and I was already attending a funeral - I didn’t know that lady or him to be there. But the firm said we all had to go to post respects. Weird thing is- he NEVER cried. Not one tear. Not at the funeral or burial. Dude was stone faced the whole time. I’m just going to leave it at that.

Even spookier- 9/11, New Jersey was a dumping ground for leftover parts of the buildings, planes, personal belongings, whatever parts and pieces landed in the waterways - one of my train transfer spots was at the World Trade Center. (Well it wasn’t officially WTC - it was a detour) 9/11 happened way before I started working in Jersey but you could smell and see the haze and clouds YEARS later. Every day walking past a hole in the ground where buildings used to be . That was Omen Number 2 for me. Everything was just bad. Not to mention my last lunch (bc I knew I was on my way out of there) it was like a “pre- firing” Lunch/dinner thing. This older Cuban lady - (they treated her like shyt too) she was the only nice one there - really nice lady, invited me out with her husband to say “goodbye”. It was like this upscale Italian restaurant where we are but it was rebuilt near the World Trade Center. The symbolism of eating my final firm expensed meal, nearing my last days on the job next to a burial ground/ mass grave/ memorial while my life and future was crashing and burning.
    kevinhartdisgust

It’s like the scene from the movie The Devils Advocate with Al Pacino. Where the flames are burning and people’s faces are morphing into demonic creatures. I laugh about that shyt now but what the fuqqqqqq??!!! Got on the phone crying to my parents, broke my lease, moved back in to their house for a few months. I wasn’t ready for that adult on my own grown up shyt, racist evil bastards. Never the f-k again. That was a Reevaluate my decisions in life type moment.

I’m sorry you had to go through that. Sucks how much we have to deal with just to make ends meet. I’ve had dinners where they were coon vetting me and I failed every single time. I would talk about reparations be owed and shit and that definitely stifled my upward growth.

Yooooo coon vetting is real AF. I remember a white lady at work walked up to me randomly and asked me what I thought about Trump. I was low key offended at the fact that she thought there was a chance the answer was anything other than fuck Donald trump.

Real talk - There is a definite unspoken coon/coonette vetting process. These white interviewers are looking for conformity and apathy = coonformity. They want the smiley happy safe “black person” for lack of a better term. If you don’t have a certain number of points on their coon -coonette rating scale. There’s only so far you’ll go. That’s one of the reasons I know I haven’t advanced as far as my abilities - they limit you. I’m not one to go to their summer parties and small talk, Christmas parties, happy hour - laughing along like a programmed robot. They don’t want us to be foreward thinkers, progressive, or free thinking. You can’t challenge the status quo. If you do , they will sequester you to your own personal career Hamsterdam.

I don’t get into any deep discussions or political talk at work bc I know how one track minded they are. But white people at with will barely let you get a word in- they live for talking about themselves and their activities. They will talk for 20 mins straight and not realize you checked out of the conversation at the 5 minute mark -
But you’ll know their entire life history.

Interesting thing is that to us their “inappropriate” or “you crossed the line” threshold is so arbitrary to us. I had a school mate who played porn in the car on his navigation screen but would not tell you who he voted for. Politics was a bridge too far for him but anal in the car? Perfectly acceptable.

Early.
