Growing up my mom forced me to go to church every Sunday. These days I'm not very religious. I do believe in god, but I don't go to church much. I will go to church with my mom whenever I visit her though, but other than that, I haven't went to church in a couple years now. I've never been one to be too religious, but I say more power to you if you are. I respect anyone's choice to believe what they want. It's just never really been my thing.

I don't follow any dogmatic thought system.

I don't like having my thoughts handcuffed to a static philosophy...life is too ever-changing to stop yourself from evolving. What would Jesus do if he had pornhub. You'll never know so how you gonna read his story to try to work through no fap? Better ask someone alive now.

I grew up going to church. I believe in God but I have not been to a church since my teen years. I stopped going because of people, not because of God. I got sick of the whole notion that you can be a piece of crap but going to church on Sunday made you a better person. You go around treating people like crap and preaching God is good, you are just a hypocrite.

I play keys at church, so I’m there every Sunday.

    If I wasn’t a musician, I can’t say if I’d go or not.

But I’ve been at my current church for almost 13 years. They’re like my second family. If I ever needed anything, there’s at least a dozen people there I could call on.

I was raised in church, and I believe in God. However, I wouldn't call myself "religious". I go to church to see family & friends, and also to give my child some of the same good experiences that I had as a youth.
My church switched to virtual services during the pandemic, but watching on YouTube isn't the same as being in the building.

Going to church now or days is more like a carnival or circus. How the hypocrites run wild.
…and the thing about it is that a lot of it is meaningless. We about to have a median wealth of $0 I think by 2050 and they in church talking about what some dude did 2000 years ago. People sitting in their tithing but don’t even have life insurance.

The Black church used to be the nerve center of our community.
We used the church to plan, organize, and strategize our collective moves during the Civil Rights Movement. The church was where our brothers and sisters went when they were hungry and hopeless for help. We worshipped God together in church. We made new friends in church, and many of those friends became family. Some of our most prolific singers got their soulful sounds in the Black chuch.
Somewhere along the way, the church (and God) lost favor with younger Black people, maybe that was by design?

I grew up Baptist, develop major depression when I was 16 and dropped Christianity in my early thirties when I realized it was doing nothing but causing me pain/exacerbating my depression due to my homosexuality. Later, I went through an anti-Christian phase.

Then I found spirituality, lifting my major depression, after I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2016. About a year ago I was directed to a book called "A Course in Miracles" which re-contextualizes the spiritual knowledge in the Bible. Really, all our problems come from the mistake of believing God/Jesus/Allah/Buddha/etc. are separate entities apart from us. There is only one entity in the Universe parading in different forms. WE are God.

Thank you for sharing that brotha, that’s powerful. Now how do you resolve your homosexuality with those Abrahamic Faith systems? Is it basically overlooking the offending scriptures or understanding that it is all the word of man and that your connection to the source is greater?

BTW you’re accepted here and if anyone makes you feel uncomfortable with your sexuality don’t report send me a DM directly.

Another thing I learned on my spiritual journey is about levels of consciousness. That just was the level of consciousness those men (God) were on when they wrote those scriptures. How is God going to call God sinful because of the way he is in a different form? It was just a mistake, a limit in consciousness of God in that form, nothing more, nothing less. Overlooked.

Dope. Because God made homosexuality, it may not have been explicitly but he built the system that creates homosexuality so how can he condemn or rebukes those who he created? If we take that metaphysical, then how can he hate himself as you have said.

Agreed but I would go even further. I don't think any of this (life/nature/reality) is necessarily explicit. It's just what happened under the laws of this universe. (I am drawing conclusions from a channeled text called "RA: Teaching the Law of One" I think it's called) There is an infinite number of Logos (universes) and under the rules of our Logos, everything you see here is what happened in its evolution.

Although they (RA: the entity channeled, who is also us) did not say it specifically, I gather something like homosexuality is natural population control. We think we have to do something about anything when nature has literally EVERYTHING under control.

Exactly fam. To me, the real church having, if and when peeps quit the buffonery, are the discussions that remains pink elephants in the room within the Black communities, as well as other truths that tend to get glossed over.

Facts. Church has to be about us working and collaborating and fixing our ills not talking about people 2000 years ago. Our whole lives people tell us not to live in the past but the Bible asks us to stay there.

I don't judge people on what they believe, religion wise. The fact that no one knows if any of that is fact of just made up, kinda makes me question the credibility of all of it. especially if white people are the gate keepers of it...
but like i said before... way before jesus ,Africans had their own spiritual/religion systems "Christianity" didn't com into to play until way later, and by non Africans.

    I hear you bruh.

I wasn't trying to convert you or anything and I agree that it's a religion that enslaves us mentally and I personally do not feel it is of any use to us anymore. All I wanted to get across is that it started in Africa but the current incarnation is the result of manipulation by the Romans, Germans, and British. Roman had a series of committees called Ecumenical Councils where they made up Jesus' divinity, they made up the trinity, and the original African churchs split off of them at certain points because they didn't back the lies. There is a form of Christianity that is called Non-Chalcedonian Christianity and many of the sects within trace back to the original message. Once again I'm not vouching for Christianity, I don't care for it, I just wanted to add some additional info into the thread.

If your lady asked you to go back and wanted your kids to join what would you say?
I would decline. I'm not a believer and don't pretend to be. I mean, I'd go for a special occasion or whatever but i wouldn't start attending regularly. I wouldn't stop her though, I would educate my kids that church in and of itself is not the end all be all and to think for themselves.

Using your logic one can say raping or practicing pedophile acts is also ok because God created the system.

Not true because there’s a difference between acts between two consenting adults and an adult and a child.
But consent is a man made concept. Now you're entering the field of "morals" and "values", it differs from culture to culture.
Back in the day a 15 yr old would be considered an adult after a rite of passage, so who defines what is an "adult"?

So what you’re telling me is that the only thing that’s stopping you from messing with kids is social norms? There’s nothing inside you that sees kids and triggers a protection mechanism causing you to want to protect them from all harm!

I don't believe in social norms, i believe in the scriptures. There i'll find what i should and shouldn't do. You said God created man so He must be okay with homosexuality. I say man made it acceptable through social norms, not God.

The scriptures are social norms though.

    Council of Nicaea

    Council of Chalcedon

The book has a documented history of being the word of man. So you're still grabbing your morality through what society tells you rather than through something that is a universal conviction.

At the end of the day, comparing what two consenting adults do to an adult abusing a child is disingenuous.

Neither council were able to add or substract from the scriptures. What they did were change some names and decide which books would be part of the biblical canon. It's ok we disagree on this.
