I been thinking about this for a while. It seems like a lot of people come and go from relationships like chewed bubblegum these days. I can't help but make the connection to social media. Like where people go to get validation and feel-good hormones released and soon as it wears out, they need to find something to get the next hit. It seems like this is how a lot of people treat relationships these days. Good until it no longer serves their needs or pleasures, or until something better comes along.

What are your thoughts on this?

I think it's really not wanting to commit. Plus we live in a disposable world.
When was the last time you saw a TV repair shop? How many shoe repair places do you pass on the way to work?
If you want a new relationship, "trash the one you got and get a new one", is what's in people's minds these days.

Just my 2 coins...

That is true. We started with our materials and now we do it with people. It is sad. Kids grow up seeing this behavior and think it is normal now. I am doing my best to live by the waste not want not saying in that I make the most of what I have.

I think it’s giving the guise of interaction and deludes people into thinking that they are making meaningful connections.

What other factors you think?
The kind of world we live in now. Some examples; how the neighborhoods are physically comprised, our work schedules, school schedules, free time, and the kinds of activities that we engage in are a few factors that come to mind..

Good points. We have less time to ourselves to connect is what I’m guessing you’re saying.

Right, less time too connect as well as physical boundaries that sometimes prevent connecting. When I was a kid, where we lived, the neighborhood had sidewalks. People were walking on those sidewalks, kids playing in the yards near the sidewalk, and adults sitting on the porch watching the kids, or the people on the sidewalks. Many neighborhoods now have fabulous houses but no sidewalks. Almost like the kind of interaction fostered by having sidewalks is being discouraged…

Do I think social media is creating less fulfilling relationships? Yes, aboslutely. I feel like people use social media to broadcast themselves as someone they are not just to try and find a date. Once they get the date, both parties normally find out that the other person isn't what they expected, it's just someone they found on the internet. In all honesty, I don't believe too many relationships last too long nowadays just because of this. No one takes the time to get to know an individual anymore, it's a swipe right or left type of deal.

Being loose and careless is. There are women on socials doing nothing but shaking their asses and dudes looking for nothing but a spot to dip their wick in. How you meant to form a relationship when sex, no strings attached, is so easy to come by? A woman has respect for herself and the dude will lose interest when he finds a woman willing to just give it all for nothing. Social media isn't to blame, not at the core. It is people being self-centered and only caring about their own needs and pleasures.

You read my mind. Yes, i guess the infinity scroll on social media makes us think we have more options down there. So we keep scrolling for an even better "thing".

You're right, it does seem like a lot of people come and go from relationships these days. I like the "Chewed bubblegum" analogy! I am actually one of the already chewed! I was just spat recently haha! It is the new normal. But your can be "re-chewed" Will Smith Haha

Thanks so much for that observation because I was beginning to think that it's something that only me sees all the time. It's like they don't care anymore when it comes to flaunting their almost nude body on social media. There are lots of them on Twitter which is worst and those on Facebook etc.

Twitter is a hot mess. They not only have porno pics all over the place, but they also have people on there with fetishes for animals and those MAP sickos. I feel like there is some sort of shady human trafficking BS going on over on Twitter which is why they don't want Elon to buy it.

The very first time I stumbled on porn on Twitter, I was like WTF!!! How's that even being allowed without any kind of account restrictions. I went in further and realized that it's something that have thrived on the platform for years and it's never going to stop. If Elon Musk should purchase Twitter, I would be very happy to see some new changes.

When you demand that your partner commit, basically submit, and be loyal to you and only you, and yet you ironically don't want to give any real respect, commitment, and loyalty in return, then you are using the person because you feel that you got options. You fuck em then you leave em and then "it's on to the next one." That is what is being promoted and encouraged. A lot of these people get into relationships for control, sex, appearances, codependency, hobosexualism, fear of being alone, wanting to use and exploit and abuse people, wanting to dispose of and pump and dump people when they're "finished" with them, etc.

When we live in a disposal hookup culture and social media culture, a selfish, narcissistic and vain world where having an intact family is frowned upon and people are not okay and are struggling to get by along with most of the songs on the radio sounding like the song below, then can you really be surprised at the disastrous results?

Yeah, they shouldn't be putting that nonsense on there. If people want to go look at porn, they can find it elsewhere very easily.

I honestly blame the crowd that came from Tumblr with all their weird fetishes and sexualizations for Twitter getting worse. They allowed that and now they allow anything.

Seriously!!! There are so many designated websites or channels for all the pornish stuff they ever felt like sharing online. As long as they stick to those channels, I'm sure that's not going to be an issue for anyone. If you need their services, you know where to get them. I blame the management of Twitter for a lot of things that have gone wrong with the social media site.

The so-called "board" was said to have been an issue for years by that Jack dude who created Twitter. If he is saying that, I can't imagine how bad it is. It is probably nothing but virtue signaling racists.

I never knew how bad twitter was until I made the 6ZEROS twitter. There is porn all in through the site…definitely can’t let your kids surf it.

Yap! This is because social media promotes a superficial, unrealistic relationship that only lasts as long as it's new. Social media also hurts our ability to focus on the things that really matter in life. When you’re scrolling through Instagram or Facebook, you’re not spending time with your friends and family, so you don't get the real benefits of having them in your life.

Pretty much. Social media is diluting everything. We are becoming less intimate and more concerned about how other people view us on the outside. When you scroll social media feeds, all you see is some good things that are happening to people all over. They don't share the ugly stuff that they are dealing with.

That has affected the way we handle relationship. We prefer dealing with the good stuff and forget that the bad sh*t should also happen in order to make life complete.

It is BAD. I was getting DMs from porn bots on a weekly basis. I hardly use it now but I can't tell you how many accounts I had to block. It is disturbing. Then you have women promoting their onlyfans accounts on every popular tweet or trending hashtag. It is a mess.

I always tell my friends to never take anything that they see on social media seriously because most users all live fake lives on these platforms. If you ever base your life on what you see there and try so hard to fit in, you will only end up killing yourself. It's why most relationships that are copying what they see on social media, all end up crash and burning in the end.

Great point and part of the issue is that life is a continuous stream we break up into 24 hour blocks. You can't base the excitement of your life based on random, super rehearsed, millisecond, slices of someone else's. We saw Anthony Bourdain traveling the world thinking he was happy and fulfilled because that's all we saw. Come to find out, outside of the little slices of time we got to see, he was miserable. So to your point, Social media is bullshit.

I kinda agree that the emergence of a lot of social media apps, with dating sites in particular, have made relationships each to create and easier to destroy. Young people now get into multiple relationships with others on the internet with less interest on building longtime bonds with a particular partner.

It's like what's been trending a lot in most social media sites lately where most young ladies have turned social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and TikTok as an avenue where they dress half naked and posting videos where they shake their a** all day. Like seriously, what's their purpose?

Relationship last longer when the two partners got better understanding. When the love isn't there, and no understanding, surely such relationship wouldn't last. Not all relationship that started from social media last for long, some ends in pain.
Although, there are some lucky one's that meet through social media and later get married in which their relationship is well built. I don't encourage it because in most cases, it doesn't go as planned. I know at least 2 people that got married after meeting through Facebook. One of them have divorced and it was a nasty one.

That's nasty ending for the couple that divorced, such kind of scenerio is what many avoids when it comes to tightening the nut with their friend they met from social media. Due to how dangerous some of them might be at the end.
