Let's say you're dating someone new, and she or he has a kid or two. And those kids absolutely hate you, or hate anyone who dates their parent. I'm thinking about meeting this woman who has a couple kids, and they're close to teen age, and I have a feeling they're going to hate me first off. I mean, I get it, kids sometime don't like seeing a parent with another person, but I think they learn to accept the fact that moving on must be done.

Anyway, how do you get along with the kids when you do start to date their mom or dad? Have you ever had issues with a partners kids?

I am dating someone who has a little girl. I shouldn't say dating, we are going on dates and seeing where things go. If we decide to take it further, I will meet her. I have no experience with this. I had never been with a man who already has children. She is on the younger side and her mom is not in the picture so I don't feel like it will be hard to bond with her. Time will tell!

Honestly never really had an issue with the kids. I just try to be their friend instead of their parent.

One guy's little girl would try to come for you if you let her. One time she asked "What is it that you do?" I told her "I work with your daddy" sanaalathanlaugh

Never had an issue with her after. In fact. that was my little buddy to the point it became a mild issue. She would wanna talk to me about stuff she didn't want to talk to her dad about or ask me to do stuff like her make up for Halloween and it made her dad feel some sort of way. Lol Like he had an issue with her wanting to look to a woman for advice rather than him. Single parents can be weird about their kids especially these new age parents who want to be their child's friend more so than a parent. My go to line is "Ask your daddy."

But I honestly rather not day single parents. Too much baggage

That's a tough situation to be in because if you start to withdrawal the child will definitely perceive it. So you're caught in the middle between being loyal to your partner or being loyal to their child and that's a lose/lose. That's why I always try to delay meeting the kids for as long as possible. I remember some lady I went on a couple dates on tried to introduce me to her kids after the second date. I ditched her after that, says so much about her.

But grown children are different than a 3 year old.
Yes but just because someone is older doesn't mean they have grown children. You can be 35 with a 4 year old just as easily as having a 20 year old. My point was that the older we get the more parents that will be present in our dating pool.

True but the older someone is the more likely they have older children. My point was that dating someone with older children is a completely different experience than dating someone with young children.

If you're not patient it's best to not enter into these types of situations especially if the kids are older. A lot of the times the children are going to make you work hard to earn their trust, much harder than the mom in your case. If she is not someone you're serious about you shouldn't even be talking about meeting with the children.
