So I created this thread because I would love to discuss and read about some of the games that you had high expectations for, that resulted in a colossal fail. In your own opinions of course. For the games you mention, talk a bit about why it felt so disappointing. Was it pacing? Did the story jump the shark? Was it gameplay or mechanics? Let's discuss!!
Here are a couple of mine:
The Getaway: Black Monday - PS2
Issues: Mechanics were a little choppy for a then elite console. The story seemed short and underdeveloped. Voice acting was meh, at best. The overall game experience seemed rushed and disjointed in certain parts vs. more robust missions that fleshed out the story and characters a little better.
TLOU2 - PS4
Issues: Everything...No I'm only kidding....a little.
Max Payne 2 - PS2
Issues: Definitely my first bad Rockstar Games experience. Mechanics were a hot mess, story was stupid, no auto-save, rushed levels, pointless love story between Max and Mona. It was a hot mess all the way around.

The story was absolutely horrible. A complete 180* from what made TLOU1 so dynamic. The 1st game's story was so well written where it made you care about the characters despite any flaws they may have had. You had a vested interest in the success of Joel and Ellie's trek across the country to Seattle. In 2, the story dynamic that made the game so great in the first place was torched due to a poor telling of a revenge plot that could have worked had there been better pacing, better support characters, and better subplots (the only one that WAS good was toward the end with this group called the Rattlers). The "parallel-story-telling" of the 2nd main character Abby is forced down your throat in flashbacks in a contrived effort to make you care about her and sympathize with her but her character has ZERO redeeming qualities and quite frankly drags the story down and ultimately the game IMO because this series is built on being story-driven.
