This is something I did a lot growing up. I would go with my mom and grandma and I had a lot of fun. My mom would give me $10 to buy whatever I wanted but I only had that $10 so I had to decide if I really wanted something or if I wanted to wait for the next sale. She also said I could save it for the next time we went if I wanted so I could have more spending money for next time which I did do a few times. We’d go to like 5 to 10 different sales in a day and did this most Saturdays in the summer.

I have not gone to any as an adult. There are some popping up in my area and I am considering going. I just don’t want people being all funny because of COVID. lol

I did go to one a while back, when I was looking for vinyl records. The lady didn’t have anything good, but we had a nice convo

Nah, after I got bed bugs one time I never took anything from anyone else's house. I had to pay $1500 to have a heat treatment done on my place.

That's terrible. I've walked through a few yard sales but never picked anything up. Now I definitely won't lol

Nope, it was a neighbor that was moving out and they gave me some stuff. I looked at it one day in the closet and I had bed bugs coming out. I never seen anything like that before, I through the stuff out and it was on after that. It was like I woke the sleeping dragon. I was getting bit at night...it was a freaking nightmare. I tried a bunch of different remedies from elevating the bed posts, steaming the bed frames, washing the covers on high heat, they'd go away for a day or two and be back.

I never want to go through again.

Don't do it. That little come up you get at the yard sale could easily make you prey at the end of the night. What I hate about bed bugs is they sense the carbon dioxide when you're sleeping and that's how they know when to come out. They hide when you up and about but when you sleep, they come out to feast on your blood.

Back in 2014 I was staying with a friend and her mom. She was having some windows redone and couldn't hang up any blinds so she headed down to the Goodwill and picked up some sheets to hang over the windows. Needless to say, one of them sheets has bed bugs in it. She never did treatment for it though. They mainly infested my bed and my chair which I threw both away. Because I was staying in the front room, I think I kept them there and they didn't venture throughout the house or something. I still bought a steam cleaner and steam cleaned the heck out that place. After I threw out my things and moved out, they were gone. I was paranoid for MONTHS though after that!

Oh hell no! Sometimes it takes them awhile to get to other rooms. Or some people are not awaken when the bugs are feasting on them so they never even know they have an infestation. They just see bumps on their body.

I've been there, done that, and have the t-shirt. I had bed bugs and I would wake up to them on my bed. It was disgusting and I felt unsafe in my home. I felt molested by bugs.

This is how I feel too. I only believe in "one man's trash is another man's treasure" when it comes to women. When it comes to knick knacks, you can keep that.

Isnt it strange how you probably remember that $10 for a yard sale more than the big trips or the fancy toys? It’s those small bonding moments that really stay with you forever.

Yeah, this is true. I think this is why it is important for parents to spend time with their kids and do things they can enjoy and be a part of. I learned a lot about money management as well.

Very true, you don't have to browse through the old ladies front yard anymore. You just see what you want online and go pick it up.

I see there is a ton of things folks can do. Plenty of websites that can be googled.

The females in my family love yard sales. I can't think of one male that loves them.

My mom used to bring me to yard sales when I was very young. One of my first hustles as a kid was going to yard sales in rich areas, finding undervalued stuff and flipping it. Antiques, old coins, all kinds of ish.

It depends if I was looking for a particular item or if I was a consignment shop owner then I'd probably go to one every now and then. It's just hard to trust folks when cash and carry is involved so hopefully there's an electronic payment option available.

Not so much. Here and there I may swing in to one every now and again. I don't buy clothes, sheets, blankets or other cloth things.
Electronics, tools or other such items that can be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized are about it.
