We are no longer Mande, Peul, Akan, Bambara, but black in the eyes of the white world. Once everyone gets on board, we begin to see ourselves here in America not as "African-Americans," but as "black African descendants" born in America. Identity is the bedrock of a focused people and nation. Ethnicities are the fine details but we as black people globally have to counter the racial simplicity that has developed over the centuries.
