When I was younger I used to over tip all the time so I wouldn't fall into that stereotype that "Black's are bad tippers" I used to hear that all the time so I used to over tip to prove people wrong.
But now that I'm older, I only tip if the service is good, and I always tip heavy if I have a black waiter or waitress. If I have a none black waitress/waiter and I have good service, I do 20 - 25 % depending on the vibe I get.
Am I the only one who does this or is this something a lot of black people think about?
What do you tip and what would make you over tip?

I only over tip if I know I‘m going to be a regular and want tip top service next time I roll through. Outside of that I’m at about 15% for average service and it goes up from there.

I don‘t know. I‘m pretty sure it’s 20% but if the service sucks they not getting that.

I always tip at least 10% no matter what. You tip for service. Not for good service.
Now if I get good service then the tips goes up. 20% for good service. Excellent service 30%.

But even if the service is poor I tips 10%. Remember people make a living on tips in some jobs!

I start off at 30% and depending on the level of service I remove a percentage point or two.

I tip 15 % but will give more according to service. If the service is shitty I just get a manager. Portland is one of the few places where service staff get paid an actual hourly wage as opposed to 2.15 in places like Texas (back when I did it. I'm sure its at least 2.75 now). When I first started hanging out in Portland I would ask why the servers were so terrible everywhere I went and they said it was because they already get a wage, but now that i type this out, it was probably just racism hahahahaha

but yeah 15 and if its really good 20, and like Jay said, if its a spot I wanna come back to on the regular, 30.
