I completely agree. Unfortunately my wife and I both come from toxic non wealth building homes. However when we found each other we bonded over the pain and made the choice together to give our children everything we didn't have.
It takes time and determination.
You have to be the change you want to see.

Did you go to therapy to work through the dysfunctions? It’s difficult sometimes to even see them since they’re all you know.

A little bit of both. I have experience in counseling. However over time my wife and I have served as each others therapists when it comes to positively processing past traumas. Your spouse is supposed to be what you need them to be. Sometimes you have to be each other's therapist. Communication is key to any happy marrieage.
