And yes, Kenan was married to a non-Black woman. Now that that's out of the way, who do you agree with on the usage of the n-word?
I think it‘s surface level conversation. I don’t care if we say “nigga” as long as we don’t treat each other like “niggas”. People like to intellectualize things too much, some of those folks asking us to change our lexicon be the ones selling us out behind closed doors. At the end of the day, the term will go away when we desire as a community to make it go away. It’ll be a natural side effect of an evolved state of the community.

P.S. Mike has self-esteem issues so his take is self-deprecation. He also said the white girl shouldn't have been g-checked for saying it SMH.

Love me some Mike Tyson (the boxer). Tyson fights were basically family weekend get togethers when I was growing up, but Mike the Celebrity???? problematic. It is weird to see the soft shoeing from somebody who was so blatantly railroaded by white society, but I'm sure part of that is not having a pops, and him being raised by his trainer/guardian. Especiallly when you think about how he was at one time heavy into the NOI. My boy Mike been compromised and he is tired o fighting. I'll probably get a little misty eyed when its his time. Not because I'll be sad he died, but because I know how much pain that brother had to go through to become who he was. It seems like all our FBA icons have to overcome insurmmountable odds to become superstars, but at heavy psychological costs.

As for the word "nigga" it won't have as much power when we finally stop being the bottom caste in global society. But I can't tell you how many times I look at Black kids crazy when I see them let their white and Mexican peers use the word so flippantly. I used to work with a vietnemese cat up here in Norcal, and he would go from wanting try and say it on the low to joking "man I'm glad I'm not Black." every time the conversation went to police brutality. This dude was a refugee from Vietnam but he was siding with the people who bombed the hell out of his country. to quote Mooney, "everybody wanna be a nigga, but nobody wanna be a nigga." and to quote Akala, "why do non-Blacks want to say the word so badly?"

Peep how Mike tried to scare Keenan but Keenan didn't fall for it and turned that shit right back around on him and hit him with love. Mike went into his "I'm a piece of shit" bag on him but Keenan came right back with the love.
Keenan might be more solid than I thought.
I think we need to cool out on it.
I definitely think we need to lay off of it in mixed company altogether.
Non-Black people, ESPECIALLY white ppl, need to be g-checked for saying it.

There is no excuse for white people to say it at all. They need to be under the fear of immediate bodily harm if they drop that word on us straight up and down. Mike was cooning on there a bit.

That's true mate, definitely if the n - word would have to be slashed out of our lexicons it would do that in a collective manner. The main point here is how we choose to treat each other, do we still call our selves brothers but would sell out your other black man without even a second thought. We need to show more sincere love and stop all this patronizing words when we get on camera.

Mike Tyson has low self esteem and it is super evident. Look how he referred to himself as a “nigga” and in the most negative way possible. He low key was calling himself a n****r on his show and saying he’s lowly and will always be. I’m like you…Tyson in the ring is dope, Tyson out of the ring is 50/50.

Lastly, racist ass Vietnamese have no business wanting to say the word at all. He needs to get the pho smacked out of him if he says it.

Maybe this has to do with my father's influence over my life and my upbringing but I never used it. Any version of it. I know it is simple street slang but at this point, I just view it as an insult. The soft a is different than the hard r but they come from the same family. That family is the white man's slave trade system. I want no part in it. I feel like this is part of the "thug" mentality that was pushed on us through the music industry. Like to me, seeing black men and women refer to each other as "niggas" doesn't feel empowering, it feels degrading and I think we as a collective need to move away from it. It just gives other races power over us and I am sick of that. That is just my opinion of it though. I know that won't change anything and people will do whatever the hell they want.

brrrrrrrauuuhhhhh, I almost put them paws on him at work (for something unrelated), some furnitutre got moved around beore cooler heads prevailed-- and this was at a cubicle gig. He was a little asian cat who thought just cuz he went to school with Black kids, played ball, and vultured our culture, that he was down. hhe was smart enough not to say it around me or the other Black co-workers, but he let it slip that he does say it around his friends, then would have the nerve to come to us whenever something racist happened to him cuz he was asian. dude was real funny style.
