I know one of yall aunties sold mary kay or avon or amway, have any of you? I've thought about doing it but I can't pay someone to sell for them it doesnt make sense. I've been hooked on Lu La Rich about the clothing MLM for white soccer moms.

MLMs are crack to me, I'm signed up on r/MLM, I like pyramid scheme alert and read it frequently, and I like researching all the new companies. They have the most convoluted freaking comp plans in the world.

My cousin's mom sold Mary Kay make-up when I was growing up. I loved getting free samples from her. I considered getting in on Avon several years ago but I was being harassed over it by the woman who was trying to get me signed up. Like damn, chill out lady. I was only looking for a small side hustle. Completely put me off from MLMs.

I was only looking for a small side hustle. Completely put me off from MLMs.

Good thing you didn’t join as the mathematics do not add up. I always break it down to people as such:

• There’s 10 people in this neighborhood who will buy your item
• You get $2 for selling to them directly
• You get $1 if I sell to them as your down line

You will make $20 if you get those 10 customers yourself and less that $20 if you recruit me, why are you trying to make less money? Either you’re lying to me about how people truly make money in this business or you do not have a grasp of the business you’re in, in either case I’m not interested.

Joining an MLM can be lucrative, but YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY RECRUIT TO SEE ANY SIGNIFICANT INCOME.
I made very good money with Primerica, and I had a nice sized downline. The actual money comes from recruiting and selling downward, and the overrides that you get from your downline. If you can't commit to recruiting people everywhere you go, then joining an MLM might not be for you.

I made very good money with Primerica, and I had a nice sized downline. The actual money comes from recruiting and selling downward, and the overrides that you get from your downline. If you can't commit to recruiting people everywhere you go, then joining an MLM might not be for you.

It’s actually pretty damn ingenious when you think about it.

In a pyramid scheme it is explicit in that you’re passing money upward and building out a downline to pass money up to you. In it, you are enriching those above you and those below you enrich you.

Same thing happens in MLMs but it’s shielded in a product purchase. You‘re still passing money upward but through a product purchase that’s typically required in order to qualify for bonuses.

So in a pyramid scheme I might be required to pass up $100 month, in an MLM I will be required to purchase $100 worth of product a month…same thing at the end of the day.

That’s why MLMs have migrated to low cost products like drinks, makeups, supplements because the product cuts into the hypothetical $100 going upward. Instead of getting $100 per head I’m now getting $80 after I account for product costs.

It was a legging empire. If you were ever in the suburbs you definitely saw someone wearing them. I'm on episode 4 and the owners are scumbags. They stole all that money from those women and they feel no remorse.

I would be lying if I said I hadn't looked at any of them before. I know of a couple ladies that have made a lot with it but it's nearly impossible to get to that point. But now it just seems like they're all so toxic, I've heard some pretty bad horror stories. I do want to watch Lu La Rich though, I love watching some good drama lol

Ok... yall got me. I wouldn't be caught dead without my perfectly matched legging and shirt combo! In fact, I have about 30 pairs sitting in my closet right now. Here's an example of my daily outfit:

This part is straight facts:

No Connection between Demand (none) and Supply (“infinite”)​

The first is the compensation based on recruiting. The net effect of the recruiting “incentive” is that it creates a sales force that is unrelated to the market demand or need for product. The “duplication” incentive and “unlimited” rewards produce far more salespeople than the market could support. Add in the factor that the recruiter is paid from the newly recruited salesperson’s own purchases, rather than only from external purchases by end-users, the reality of a pyramid scheme becomes blatant and the connection to real sales is severed totally. Every area soon has too many “salespeople” selling exactly the same products. They all buy at the same price. The cost to find and reach “customers” is too high. Keeping loyal customers in the face of so many competitive “salespeople” is impossible. Every “customer” can get the product at the “salesperson’s” price just by signing up and paying a fee. Retailing, i.e., direct selling, becomes utterly impossible.
