I got a home girl with a huge student loan debt. I told her, you will either get some debt relief this November or November 2024. She asked why? I said, if Biden and Dems are losing they will do it before the election to get votes.

Student loans were once able to be written off with any filing of personal bankruptcy in the '90s. The government snuck it in in the Homeland Security act I think...not 100% sure (correct me if I'm wrong) but it was at that time. Why can't they do that? You can get out of debt and its not like you aren't being penalized as a BK is on your credit for 7 years.

They won't because the companies that wrote the loans paid off the government via lobbyists and gave them a bag in donations.

...one more thing. My guess is student loan will be forgiven in one of two possible scenarios. There is an economic collapse and they can't get the economy going without forgiving it. The total is well over 1.5 trillion, yes trillion with a t and its huge bubble and drain on the future income earners. So, next crash they might forgive it. A second way as its a democratic carrot to get young people to vote by saying they will forgive it is some Republican president does it to peel off Dem voters.

They aren't canceled. This 300 billion relief has just been pushed onto taxpayers. So you and everyone else is going to be paying for this debt whether you want to or not. I paid off my debts and now I have to pay other people's off too? I am PISSED. This doesn't help anyone. It just makes USD even MORE unstable and is hurting anyone's future under the age of 50.

I don't think I qualify for this relief at all for one. For two, I'm interested in how they were able to cancel the PPP loans just flat out, dish out money you auto-magically found to Asians, Gays, Neo-Nazis I mean Ukrainian Refugees, and Illegal Immigrants from the borders, but you couldn't just cancel the loan debt flat out and be done with it.

Like big ups to the folks who could pay their shit off before now, but the Student Loan industry is a predatory scam and not all of us have mommies and daddies with money to spare to help us pay them off. While we're out here trying to get jobs in our field of study where they want to pay us minimum wage, and then expect that to be enough for cost of living.

Maybe if we educated our OWN citizens for free and charged the HELL out of immigrants fleeing their countries to get educated here and then turn around and compete against us, this wouldn't be such a huge fucking problem, but that makes too much sense and sounds too much like right. College grads should just stop being ungrateful and be glad to have just enough money to be broke every fucking paycheck and still not have enough to support themselves.

It looks like I may qualify as well, so I gotta admit that's a burden lifted off my chest. I don't know if I have to actually speak to anyone about getting my loans cancelled, or if they're somehow automatically cancelled.

Still though, I do agree with those in here who think this will result in prices to go up, especially for out taxes. There's always some hidden thing that we're missing, and I bet this will result in inflation getting worse.

I am sure it is helping you now but collectively, this will cost all taxpayers 500 billion and I am fairly certain they are just printing it off, the same as they do for loans so it is just the same thing but forcing everyone to pay for it with interest. Like they are taking away from working-class people who either couldn't afford to go to college or chose not to because they didn't want to risk that debt and saying "well f you, you now have to pay for this!". It is basically pushing the debt onto someone else and this will only cause more issues in black communities... More poverty, more people pushed onto welfare... and more power handed over to the white old ass government.

They helping out us for once. They gonna print up money for something else anyway.

It's funny that the economy only is a concern when they give the people a lil relief.
The man has a point Sapphire. Fiscal responsibility is only a consideration when the money trickles down. If it’s to start a war…

Yes, in the short it will help people but what he should have done was remove the interest, not 10k worth of debt. That is nothing because those interest rates will just go up and you will end up owing the banks even more in the long run if you sit on your debt too long. If he had canceled the interest, the banks would have eaten most of it and it would have helped people according to their own percentages. Like if someone had already paid 50k for their debt but their interest was 40k, that would have been removed vs a lousy 10k that will be taxed for anyways. They consider it income!

If Reaganomics and trickle down economics was a Godsend to every American human being and something to champion, then why it do certain (many if not most) people complain when the money actually trickles down to those who actually need it? That's because "trickle down economics" is actually "trickle up and never go back down" economics.

And "trickle up and never go back down" economics = just work hard, make an honest living, slave your life away, prostitute yourself to the highest bidder, and buy yourself some bootstraps to live the dying American Dream and get a small piece of the American pie that I snatched away from you.
