Good evening everyone. Are there any users on here who are into crocheting, sewing, knitting, or painting? If so, do you do any of these activities for enrichment or work??
Cool beans! I have been crocheting for about a month now. I learned when I was a child, but I never made anything. I am practicing and learning so that I can eventually start my own business with this hobby. I have a sewing machine, but I haven't used it. I really want to learn so I can make my own clothes and eventually clothes for others. I had seamstresses in my family. I also will be learning to knit in the future. I will paint for fun. Thank you for your response.Crocheting and sewing.
Mom does more crocheting than me, but I sell the items we make. Sewing is just for enrichment. I've been making my own grow bags, some clothes and other items.
That’s awesome. I would love to make a lot of things. That’s what I am working on. I do want to sell products, but I also want to donate when I can making blankets for children and pets. I have a pet myself and want to create items specifically for cats. Furthermore, I want to create bags, coasters, hates, socks, wash cloths, etc. I am on a mission atp so I can gain the skills for my feature business.I used to crochet into my early adulthood but stopped when I lost all my really good hook during a move. I would make quilts, scarfs, hand bags, and hats out of thread instead of yarn because I like the texture better and I could make the garment more closely knit. One my biggest gripes with yarn are the big spaces you see in anything you make. My grandma does a double layering technique with her quilts that makes it less noticeable. I need to pick it back up.
That really seems like a fun activity. Everyone loves jewelry. Do you have a business? I don’t know much about male sewers. That’s interesting you are working on designing clothes. We need more Black designers. I don’t know how to sew at all, but I have a “brother” machine. Now my big brother has only sewn fringes on some of his shirts. I’m sure he can help me get started. I want to learn at home, so I’ll just be watching videos. Thank you so much for your response and best wishes on mastering your seamster skills! It's beads making for me. I have been into making it ever since I was a teenager and I have made so many of them for my mother and sisters. I have been trying to learn how do sew designers cloth but it's not an easy task. Just like the one I'm putting on in my display picture, I'm working so hard to master how to sew it.
I used to stay in the Ceramics studio when I was in college. It was deeply relaxing and I'm looking forward to getting back to it one day.I don't know if this would sound odd but I enjoy molding (pottery). I learnt it when I was a kid from my grandfather who was a great potter. I have molded a few pots and flower vase. It's a hobby for me which I usually enjoy getting into whenever I'm on vacation.
Not odd at all! I totally forgot about pottery. How do you do that? I always wanted to try it. It looks fun and relaxing. I decided to get back into something I started doing in 2020 that I was enjoying. Acrylic pouring. Anyone try that here? It is so relaxing and not too expensive to do.I used to make jewelry and worked with polymer clay. I had a lot of crafting hobbies when I had more time for them. These days, I will draw if I have time. I want to get back into making more things with my hands though. It was a good way to destress.
Acrylic pouring is so cool. Always wanted to do it, but I have a lot on my list to work on. Maybe I can try some on a smaller scale.I decided to get back into something I started doing in 2020 that I was enjoying. Acrylic pouring. Anyone try that here? It is so relaxing and not too expensive to do.
They sell tiny canvases. Target has them for cheap. They have cheap acrylic paint as well or they have pouring kits. I used to get my supply from an online craft shop but Michael's bought them out after 2020 hit. I was so pissed. They had the best prices. Michael's is too damn expensive. You have to wait for their good sales or find stuff on clearance.Acrylic pouring is so cool. Always wanted to do it, but I have a lot on my list to work on. Maybe I can try some on a smaller scale.
I would like to learn. Never really had the chance to formally partake in this activity. I remember one summer I caught a fish on a line and my father messed me up. Anyway, I have fishers in my family. My great grandfather (mother's grandfather) was an avid fisher when he was alive. I never went fishing with him, but my big brother has. I am looking forward to learning how to fish in the future. I have a male cousin on my father's side who loves fishing. Hopefully I will go with him in the future with other relatives. I will try next summer. It's fishing for me. It's one of most relaxing hobbies I have ever taken part in. I can remember when my dad used to take me to Bighorn River in Montana which is very good spot for fishing when I was but a child. I still do that till date. It's one of the places I enjoy drinking my favorite beer Heineken. According to my dad, fishing without beer, is always going to be boring 😂.
That sounds fun. I would love to make my own jewelry in the future and possible sell. We need more Black owned jewelry creators.I used to make jewelry and worked with polymer clay. Etsy is a good place to sell online if you are ever looking to do so. Can start there and then branch out into your own online store. A lot of people do this on the platform. That sounds fun. Thank you. 👍🏾 I will keep that in mind when I am ready to start selling. I am aware of Etsy. I use to buy products on their app from black businesses.Etsy is a good place to sell online if you are ever looking to do so. Can start there and then branch out into your own online store. I am planning on getting into fashion designing as a full time career and I just working on perfecting my skill and working to create a unique style as well.
Just get some business cards and have a website to sell your stuff. Include one with each sale on Etsy and offer a discount for buying directly from you vs through Etsy. Fishing isn't something that you can learn alone all by yourself. It's a very good thing that you have good fishers in your family, so it's going to be very easy going with any of them and picking up a few lessons from them.I would like to learn. Oh definitely. I have no intentions of learning on my own. I will look for resources for the education part, but the actual skill will be learned from another person. It most likely will be a family member.Fishing isn't something that you can learn alone all by yourself.
