I think that you got his assessment wrong. He was of the opinion that if he's in a relationship where he's got to worry about what his partner does, it's not worth it. If she's with him and decides to mess up, it's her business and he doesn't care. According to them, they both have their passwords to their phone and all.

I let females know up front that I have other female friends that like to "kicks it" with me, if you have an issue with that then we can keep our "friendship" strickly friends.
Surprisingly being up front and honest works out pretty well. This was at a way different time, nowadays I wouldn't trust doing that now.
