A message about Stadia and our long term streaming strategy

We’ve made the difficult decision to begin winding down our Stadia streaming service.

Google Stadia is dead, it will be closing up shop January 18th 2023. Those who have games can play until then, but once that date hits, it's all over. It's so bad they're even offering refunds on hardware and games/dlc purchases since the service started. Which I admit is pretty cool of them, since I imagine they're going all the way back to the start of the service.

I kinda knew this was going to happen though. Google didn't give a shit about the service and didn't support it at all really. Games were overpriced often and from what I heard is that there was barely any good sales.

Google has done little in the past to improve Stadia. This recent announcement is no surprise to me. If you don't grow, the possibility of declining is always there. They ain't serious yet to compete.

We talked about this on The Lunch Break today. Google's business model was trash. They should have made it like a Netflix. No one wants to pay full price for a game they can't even download on their SSD. It was a joke from the start and this is the natural conclusion.

I'm not even surprised at this news, I'm more shocked that it didn't happen sooner! I seen over on Twitter that just back in July the official Stadia account posted and said that Stadia isn't dead. That tweet aged like fine milk! I got a free Stadia last year since my wife was subscribed to Youtube Premium and Google gave a free Stadia to anyone who signed up for premium before a certain date. I never took it out of the box, and well guess it's staying unopened for good now!

What’s so sad about stadia is how it was doomed from the beginning. Remember they shipped out the first orders but there was an activation issue so no one got to play for a week. What a joke.
