    Family,

People talk about mental health and it’s importance but did you know you often have control over it?

How many of you inundate yourself with nothing but the following?
    • Police Brutality
    • Racist Politics
    • Racist Immigrants
    • Hate Crimes Against Black People

If all you consume is this shit day in and day out you will go insane. You will become hateful and bitter and that makes you useless.

Find a balance…talk about hobbies, goals, find things you like and read about them, get a new skill, have fun, etc. While it’s good to understand our plight, it’s never good to destroy your mental stability.

I encourage everyone to balance out what they consume and post on every social media platform.

On 6ZEROS there’s no algorithm to trap you into an echo chamber of Black trauma porn so feel free to explore other communities and topics of discussion

I tend to explore . I have my foundation of all the above however the basics are interspersed with a lot of random lectures, online tours of museums, true crime stories, history, etc.

I make a point to only consume content or at least I make a point to prioritize consuming black owned media.
I have found that there are insightful and wise Black People who are knowledgeable in every area of activity. I have found Black voices in finance and health just to name a few. Although my family homesteads alone it is good to have a string of insightful Black Voices in our home.

With having a child my wife and I are even more conscious of the media we consume especially in front of our child.

We don't even watch shows with primarily white characters or people until our daughter goes to sleep for the night.

Although I'm sure it would forever be awkward to introduce our child to naked and afraid but you get my point 😆 😆.

Yes!! The constant struggle gets emotionally overwhelming sometimes.
I’ve always listened to a variety of podcast and shows; and I read…a lot. I dropped off a bit to catch up on our world since right now I live in a predominantly white and Latino environment.
I do want to delve more into our literature and history since I know so much more about other cultures’ accomplishments and history. I love to learn, so I’ll always be exploring other areas, but it’s time to strike a balance.

Never thought about it but I do take breaks from social media(Like I feel that is the biggest trap), news and other things and just commit myself to research. Only when I've read diaries or autobiographies during slavery do I ever feel bothered. I understand that not every white person is racist or even capable of racism. I am able to have friends of different backgrounds and I feel no hatred towards them BUT I have let friends go. Black and white if they can't respect where I'm at in life. I have been doing this for a few years now and I have even had people from the past ask me "Do you hate white people?" There was a time where I did but I realized that the emotion was really my reaction to the lack of power I felt at the time and I was letting my enemy stay in my mind and heart rent free. When I am in the "real" world I am the spook that sits by the door.

I spend most of my money on books and researching these days because I have a goal to be like some of the scholars I've read about and a desire to teach my community about these scholars so they have someone like that they can look up to. In order to accomplish that I have dedicated myself to the research and study of our history: past and present. So for me I don't feel like I can ever take that break because the more I learn the more clearly I see the gap between myself and people I idolize. So, while I don't think is what we all should do, it's what I have chosen to do.

I will say this however, it took me a long time to be able to enjoy videogames or watch shows. I used to be a pretty hardcore PC gamer and I even used to make mods for games like Skyrim and Dragon Age 2, but I stopped when I decided to spend my money and time on buying books and attending lectures and events. I thought I was somehow "betraying" my ancestors and the cause but History tells us that wars are fought over years but even though there is war in between there are many other things that happen too. I stopped feeling bad about watching anime when I learned that Dr. Clyde Winters also watched anime and for the same reasons I did. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can be all in on Black politics and black issues without losing yourself but I couldn't step away from this even if I tried. I'm Black wherever I go and those problems are present everywhere. Maybe I am crazy but I feel the creator made me like this for a reason. Put me through trials for a reason so I have no choice but to keep moving forward. I just want to play my position in all of this. I think a lot of us go crazy because we want to see change "NOW" and that's not how it works. Also, burn out is REAL and it's very easy and I have found myself getting depressed a bunch of times so pacing (Like most things in life) is important. So I hit my 50 pages a day (per book I'm reading) like push ups and take notes and if I want to do more I will but I don;t force it like I used to although I don't regret anything I have ever done because I was able to learn from it

Just sharing my thoughts on this. This is also a stress relief for me because I have a place where I can express myself and whether we agree or disagree I feel we need places like this site so we don't go inside. Holding everything in can literally kill you. Kizingu Zongu is no joke.

Yeah I had my son watching Youtube videos made my black people for black people and even African Nursery Rhymes. I try to balance out the Black vs White faces as much as possible...I can't do Tyler Perry or shows like Black Lightning.

We need you, brother, but we want you whole, so take them breaks. They end up adding to your purpose. When thinking through all that knowledge, the game experience and other pastimes may help you see exactly how to use Black history knowledge in a particular situation. That’s how creative solutions are found.

This made me laugh but not because it’s funny but of something I’ve experienced watching content. Have you ever watched like a white fitness or finance program and you’re like 100% into it. You watch it every day and then one day it’s like:

“Yes folks, it’s the best time to get in the best shape of your life. Work with me guys don’t be like the lazy woke blm welfare complainers”

Confused Season 3 GIF by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

You’re like “yooooooo we had a good thing going with the fitness but then you gotta go and throw a shot at me”.

It happens a lot IMO on some finance programs. They’ll throw a little jab in there and you’re like yo I think this dude is racist.

Dude you ain't lying. They will try to impose themselves on you via commercials too. Grant Cardon pale ass was always on the black financial channels I watch. Sure enough Boyce Watkins did a video like Grant Cardon mad I didn't do business with him. Im like wow they really try to get us to self sabotage by trying to hypnotize us into empowering them over our own community.

Yep. That’s what makes venturing out to gain more knowledge and open horizons so disturbing. I’m not pro-BLM after finding out about their deceit, but whenever a non-Black lobs one of those anti-BLM grenades; I’m gone before the smoke clears. I stopped listening to a bunch of podcasts for that very reason.
I wonder what our elders did during Jim Crow when a racist was the only one who knew something they needed to learn?

Yup BLM is their way of saying the n****r in a coded way. Whenever I hear that shit I check out immediately. It’s like Bernie sanders and his classism bull crap. He wants to remove classism but racism will still be there keeping us at the bottom. We can’t overlook those code words because someone may be progressive but that doesn’t mean they like Black people.

I don't agree with a lot of Boyce's personal statements but I would trust working with him over anyone else. If anything I can respect that he's at least honest and that in itself is enough for me to go on. I used to read books by Jeffrey Gitomer and it helped out but then I realized that only a portion of that game I needed to learn. The other part was how to navigate the nuances of being Black.

I absolutely agree! I sometimes need that break from the trauma black folks face and what I view regarding racial injustice. Once my Brain feel heavy I take a few days to regroup to balance my thought process out.

I hadn't been on here in quite some time. I felt like I just needed a mental break from it all.

I got to a point where I just felt like what's even the point. I just began to feel like everything that is being done for the empowerment of black people was a futile effort. To be quite honest I still feel that way.

Black people ourselves for the most part don't even prioritize black empowerment. We prioritize so much else over own well being. We prioritize entertainment, fashion, celebrities and anything else except black empowerment and the bettering of our people.

Sure there are a few of us who have woken up to reality but I'd venture to say it's less than 10% and that's being generous. There are those in the new black media who talk big but the
reality is that black people are way behind and will continue to be. All the big loud angry podcasts won't change that. What those podcast will do is have you stressed, depressed and feeling upset, angry and hopeless.

    So I
unsubscribed to alerts from pretty much all of those types of YouTube channels.

I turned my focus on something I can do something about. I am focusing on myself and my family. There is nothing I can do to hold black people as a whole accountable. I can hold myself and my family accountable though. I can improve myself and help my family improve. That's always been an important focus to me anyway but even the little time I spend looking at negative things on YouTube that are pointless anyway is time away from more important priorities.

I began focusing more on retirement planning, preparations to return to college, helping my wife and kids with things around the house. Even just simply spending that time to go out somewhere with the wife and kids instead of looking at and worrying about something that isn't going to change anyway and there is nothing I can do about it is better.

I don't think it could be said any better than Jay said in his post. Looking at a lot of these podcasts too much isn't good for your mental health. You can be woke without being
    inundated with negativity.

You can be woke without being inundated with negativity.
I'm glad you took a much needed break from all the nonsense as its exhausting.

It even got to me so I had to reduce my consumption on "New Black Media" podcasts by 90%. I only listen to Jason Black and I may watch a Moment of Truth every now and then but that's it.

Life is amazing, the world is gorgeous, and we need to take time to enjoy it. When you get out into the world you understand that you own it too. We have the right to enjoy the world just like anyone else.

That's why I also have filters on here so that you can filter out Communities that have posts that don't resonate with you.

I'm glad you're back brother and remember this is a marathon not a sprint. It's not going to change overnight...it's going to be drastically.

Even just doing something else small and taking a break from it all is refreshing. My part time job is usually pretty mundane. I'm literally getting paid to be in the home and do a few treatments throughout the day. So I have to find stuff to keep myself occupied.

I'd usually watch a lot of new black media stuff. I cut back from that now. I just have a view of if things change they change. If we get something we get it and if we don't we don't.

My focus is on what can I do to improve my life individually. I can't do anything about everyone else but I can do something about myself.

I think that goes for anything on the internet. Sometimes we need a break from the internet in general. I'd argue that the internet is just going to further our anger, because it's so easy to fall into a rhythm of continually watching the same stuff, reading similar stories, and so on.

My thing is, take a break from the internet, because it all starts there. That and television too. Instead, use the time to relax, get your mind fresh and maybe have some fun. I think we're too dependent on the internet these days, where we can consume so much stuff, that we kinda forget to take the time for ourselves.

In it's essence, we need to do that in general... Just focus on your circle, that's all anyone could ask for ...

We didn't get here overnight, I wouldn't expect things to turn until we have reached critical mass, but even after that, is still going to take a minute ..

To get somewhat philosophical, what is your purpose? If you find it, focus on that, ... if would wager to say that everyone on 6zeros has a purpose aligned with our ppl (once you find out, dig a little deeper and put action to it -or 'ponte pilas', as some might say :)

Focus on the positive though ... We are starting to get more on code everyday .. our eyes are being opened, showing their true colors everyday ... Fatalities, maladies, etc are terrible, but in reality, they help propel us ...

Ngl, in the effort to keep informed on the best way to navigate this society, its very easy to drawn into relentless negativity. Before you know it, you've aged before your time and dont recognise yourself. Its always good to take a break.

Thanks for the reminder. Fam, lets stay blessed

All the time. I don't watch anything that promotes the LBGTCBY agenda, nothing with Black death, Blacks fighting each other, or anything that fallins into the "sucka shit" category. If I'm not watching something that promotes the B1 agenda, its either sports (for gambling purposes) or comedy. I even do my best not to listen to or read nothing too heavy before bedtime.

Fr, reading the Code System Concept has been a huge help in that regard. If it is not constructive, put it aside.

I think it is good for people to be aware of the issues but you can't let it consume you. You need to live your life too. I feel like 90% of social media is negative stuff on all directions which is why I quit it. I want to be able to get my news but not be consumed by it. That is why forums like this one are essential.

Good post. I always say, “whatever you consume, consumes you.” So be mindful of the podcasts you listen to, the posts you read on social media (or even the time you spend on these platforms), and take a break from the news. Take a walk, call a friend, read a book, watch a comedy. Your mind deserves a break!

    - Jay
People should do a social media detox every so often. It is true that on Facebook that whatever a person consumes, they tend to see more topics like it.

I love doing a variety of things because it shows me what I like and don't like.

I agree Jay. Very important to watch what you consume as it does have an effect on your subconscious...

I've tried my best to stick to sources where I can learn. Uplifting material but also real material about what is going on with our people.
Guilty. Too much Storm Front tends to piss me off faster. My wife says she noticed how I go in on anti black racist in the wild. Driving by this Moose club pisses me off now because they fly that GD dixie flag.
Yep. They see things totally opposite as we do.

At some point I came to feel a lot of people in new black media simply have a gig.
That gig brings in clicks and views.
Those clicks and views bring in dollars.

To a point it becomes that it's just a lot of loud angry talk and talking slick.

A lot of it is playing on our anger and sympathies for clicks and views.

There's one guy that literally accidentally admitted to the fact that he is just talking without much behind it. He called it "the gift of gab"!

There is so much big talk and false hope in their talk.

It's okay to listen to in bits and pieces here and there. If you listen too much and get overindulged in it, it can have you feeling upset and down all the time!

We are so disorganized as a people. If we can get some good/intelligent people in one location (or through a video chat platform) on a consistent basis talking about the real problems and real solutions as well as backing them up with the appropriate actions, then we will get somewhere.
