I have been saying for years, instead of worrying about have more Black doctors, scientists, programmers, politicians, or the “First Black” this, or the “First Black” that, we should focus on graduating as many BLACK lawyers as possible.
The reason BLACK people have made the limited progress we have in America as far as civil rights is not just because of marching and protesting, it’s because the wise ones have used the courts to challenge racism and make America see how hypocritical it is when it comes to its supposed belief in freedom and justice, and the equality of all human beings.
After the gains of the Civil Rights movements of the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s, I believe we got complacent and lazy, and told ourselves that America had finally REALLY had a change of heart and mind when it came to treating us a equals. We took our foots off the gas pedal of DEMANDING our full rights, and that is why white women, legal and illegal immigrants, LGBT, and other groups were able to slide in and claim the benefits of our ancestors fights for civil rights for themselves. Watch those other groups. They will sue to get what they want, whether they honestly believe they deserve it, in a second. The fact is, America is built by BLACK Americans, but it is built ON everyone looting the system using lawsuits. Until we truly realize this, get in THE GAME by building an army of ON CODE attorneys, and use our brilliant minds to make it accountable to us, we will always be fighting with both arms tied behind our backs, while everyone else wails away on our heads, and leaves us battered, beaten, and BROKE.
