From what I read, no bidder was willing to pay the $3B asking price. I can't say I blame them. As people are moving away from traditional/cable tv, getting a nice ROI on $3B is no easy task.

Those tired, flaky, Nabiscos were never going to let a power move to happen in the first place. It was like a similar throwback to the early '90s when Bill Cosby wanted to buy NBC. Those Nabiscos wasn't going to allow BET back in the hands of shrewd businessmen like Tyler Perry. There is more than enough black money, talent and business know how to replicate BET.

There just isn't enough collective will among those with the resources to do it.

SKG is a global powerhouse. Spielberg, Katzenberg and Geffen are as different than each other as can be. Spielberg is a movie maker, no business acumen. Kaztenberg was head of Disney, he's a CEO type, no artistry. Geffen is a music producer and gay rights advocate.

They came together to get the bag. The black entertainers for the most part want white validation. They also have petty jealousies against each other. The one part of entertainment you had teamwork was the 'dirty south' back in the day when they were on each other's records, and such. You didn't see the same level of beefing you saw on the east and west coast.

Breh just talking, BET ain't going anywhere. It's still in 70 million homes. It's gonna take a while for that user base to die down for as he said re-runs and an awards show not to be profitable.

Now if they go the route he want's with orignal programming, they'll be out of business way quicker.

Korean-Americans, Chinese-Americans, Jewish-Americans and many other groups whose media are either (online and print) newspapers, radio, small cable channels, make sure their group's voice is owned by them. They don't sell out to major white companies because the most important thing to them is communicating with their own without any one telling them what they can't say.

We had that for a minute with black newspapers as well as BET, and other black media but no more. And the few that are black owned (The Grio) and others are sadly don't push a pro black agenda.

Latino had their own voice at one time with Telemundo and Univsion but they sold out to the major white companies as well.

The brother that had that shaving company, Bevel, said he wasn't trying to sell to Gillette, he wanted to be bigger than them. Then he sells to Procter and Gamble.
I don't want to be in anyone's pockets but at least seek a black buyer?
According to the internet he sold or between 20 and 40 million. There are a lot of Blacks that could have bought that individually or as a group.

Anyway, one of the pillars Dr. Claud said you need to own is your own media. BET could have been that had the Johnsons kept it.

SMH NBC did the same thing to Bill Cosby but Tyler got further along than he did only for them to pull the rug out.

Wealthy Black folks have the money but from what I seen they value white acceptance and white validation. They get scared it seems if its too 'black'. And if its black they feel they have to be overly pro...take your pick: LBGTQ+, Immigration, Feminism, Black/Brown coalition, etc.

A successful Black entertainment company is one of the easiest things to do. Historically Blacks were given two lanes to succeed in America: sports and entertainment.

The ones with the biggest money just don't want to work together and are also scared of what white zaddy will say.
