This is all theatre for Dave and the trans rights folks. Nothing substantial will come from this. if it were that serious netflix wouldn't have released it in the first place.

But I get the feeling the shoe is gonna drop for Dave eventually, but not necessarily anything involving gay people
What do you mean by “the shoe is gonna drop”?

He's gonna show his true colors eventually. Hell he already has with this whole kabuki theatre of some sitdown under the guises of conversation.

He's a comedian at the end of the day. They're just as narcissistic and sociopathic as any politician, the leeway that they have is they don't inherently have or hold themselves responsible for any of their output until it personal affronts them from a place of their place in society, not necessarily the content, through that differs in this instance.

This ain't about free speech, but grievance culture from both angles. Group A feels they're offended by jokes, Group B feels he's accosted by people simply saying they don't find his comedy funny, the more extreme arguing it's downright harmful.

Personally, I don't care either which way. This doesn't affect me, and hell Chapelle's career gets longevity because of it, despite his specials in general not having the same hit they did prior IMO.

But when I say the other shoe is gonna drop, don't be too surprised he starts running to the defense of his white comedy buddies when they start cracking jokes about black people getting killed by cops.

I think it's good to be on the lookout but nothin Dave has done has shown us that he has some ulterior motive. He has been pro-Black for a sizeable amount of his career and ditched $50M and was Black balled to stay true to his Blackness. In fact, the entire issue is due to him riding for Black people so I don't know why you would be "waiting for the shoe to drop" it's quite pessimistic.

You cannot be pro-black if your wife isn't black brother.

And he was never black balled, black balled is when you scrape by to get work, not offered fat contracts from Netflix.

I don't think you're familiar with Dave Chappelle prior to his "fat Netflix" contract. When he left the Chappelle show, they (the media, producers, pretty much everyone white) tried to say Dave was on drugs, he was crazy, there was something wrong with him, etc. Meanwhile, dude just left and was in Africa chillin' the whole time. So I STRONGLY beg to differ, he was certainly black-balled. The difference is, he had the support of the people because he didn't cave in to their bullshit.

How old are you? He was not getting ANY work after he left the Chappelle Show and was only doing small clubs. He didn't get Netflix until damn near 10 years later and that is after he got grass roots swell to the point that they couldn't front on the revenue potential anymore.

Also, you can be pro-Black without having a Black wife. Harry Belafonte was married to a White woman and bankrolling MLK, so you shouldn't speak in absolutes. Happy Belafonte was risking his career to support rights for Black people so I don't agree.

To most people you would have to be crazy to turn down $50 Million.

And I worked near the comedy store when he came back around '09-'10. he was welcomed with open arms, mind you he was already compensated for and had his money, that's how he was able to kick it in africa when he did.

I'm very familiar with the brother. I got a few family members and friends in the industry. he was never black balled in the slightest.

    I Turn 45 in December.

He was only doing small clubs because he was already paid because of his previous contracts with comedy central, now the 50 Million he walked away from, so he didn't have to work small venues. He wanted to do them. that's not being blackballed. A lot of folk have hopped into entertainment to land those sitcom/TV deals, stack they money and bounce.

You can absolutely support black folk and our upward trajectory as a people, but when you choose to lay down with and move and concentrate your wealth in non-black areas (Yellow Springs is only 14% black) I have the right to be as skeptical as pragmatically possible about someone who gets appointed as "pro-black".

because then it becomes double talking.

In what capacity do they work that makes them relevant to the conversation? Did they do PR, Marketing, AP, what did they do that gives you the inside scoop on Dave Chappelle's situation?

You're not proving that he was not Black Balled though. His actions were consistent with someone who was Black Balled but you're saying that he was doing such out of personal will and not due to lack of opportunity.

When somebody is blackballed they're literally barred every which way from making ends meet from the TV to the stage

that was never the case with him

I'm not sticking up for the cancerous entertainment industry, but i'm also not losing any sleep cause an already wealthy individual didn't land a few leading roles either.

It's only crazy to someone who thinks it's perfectly fine living out white people's black minstrel fantasies in front of the cameras.

This explanation reminds me of white people who think that because they are in PROXIMITY to black people they therefore can't be racist. Your working NEAR a comedy store proves nothing and unless your family members worked closely WITH Dave I'm willing to bet my last bottom dollar you're espousing personal feelings and rhetoric that's not really based in any real fact but in what you're choosing to interpret as such.

You didn't answer the question, you mentioned that you have family and friends that worked in the industry so tell in what capacity did they work and how that informed your opinion. You brought it up so they must have been close to Dave for you to mention it.

Secondly, you cannot Black ball someone who has grassroots support. That's why Dave was able to survive through it all because the people never stopped supporting him. Chappelle proved that he was bigger than the media companies who black balled him.

They are doing again btw...no one is airing his new documentary, no one wants to touch after this faux controversy.

Lastly, what does his money have to do with this? You mentioned it in your last sentence. None of this is an attack on you we are just having a dialogue.

That's what being a stand up comedian is nialongupset

If white people didn't love Dave, he'd be in the same spot as brothers like Corey Holcombe.

He's more accessible and safe than ya'll think he actually is.

See this part right here? You're biased against the entertainment industry so your thoughts are already from an adverse place so anything you say would need to be taken with a grain of salt.

To prove it I'll give you a personal example: I'm a Buckeye. I hate Michigan. You can't trust any take I have on Michigan because it is DRENCHED IN BUCKEYE BIAS.

    Then pass that salt.

It's not about being closed to Dave, it's being in those circles and it's the same story time and time again.

Let me digress by saying, in any professional circle of folk doing good or trying to do better for ones self, you're bound to run into folk who are a tad bigheaded, and that's definitely the case for folks in the entertainment/TV/comedy world.

And no, they aren't blackballing Dave. His name is still in the headlines and for the most part, people are taking his side

    This isn't being blackballed

He has the suits (white folk) backing him up. He's going to be fine when the smoke clears.

Why do I bring up money?

The brother Chapelle is worth around 50 million. On top of financial security, he will, when this is all said and done have the artistic and social security of his peers and his fans to guarantee

Rich folk don't have to face the same problems that black folk like us have to deal with. His issues aren't are fights.

I own a landscaping business and one residential property that I rent out. And I'm comfortable. However. If word got out on social media I was talking sideways about Mexicans, gays and trifling folks on unemployment, even if it was out of context or a joke, ain't nobody coming to my rescue. I say something out of pocket and word gets to one of my tenants and that's my bottom line. My reputation on front street, and Chapelle and the Calvary ain't sticking the necks out for me.

A brother working the register ain't gonna have the means to defend himself if he speaks what's on his mind about subpar working conditions and types of mess that happens to him.

What do we get out of defending these rich black folk? I don't need any of them to speak for me. So why put in the energy for them, when we should be using it for one another?

I hope he sticks to his guns and keeps doing shows. Screw these sensitive grown-ass children who want to cry over everything. If you don't like what someone has to say, you don't have to listen. He said nothing wrong. He tells jokes. If you don't find his jokes funny, don't watch his shows. They act like this man was out there in a crowded room sniping off trans people. Like wtf are these people even smoking? People need to stop bending the knee already.
